Run on Castle Loevestein

An informational briefing for the dual job of keeper of Castle Loevestein has drawn 250 participants. The response to the job posting was overwhelming. Over 400 candidates applied, but there was only room for 250.The remote castle is in need of a couple that is willing to be on the grounds day and night. Flickr During the day they are responsible for the bed and breakfast, equipment maintenance, and safety on site. They must stay on the premises after closing time for supervision. We are looking for flexible people, who have no problem working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, during high season, says spokesperson Hanneke Laroo. They will have to withstand the solitude in the castle during the winter months. Of course the keepers couple is entitled to a vacation, but they will have to find replacement, says Laroo. The same goes for an evening to the theater, dinner or a movie. Applicants also need realize that they may become isolated during winter months. Castle Loevestein is located where the Waal and the oude Maas intersect in the Merwede. The area can flood. Applications are welcome until August 31st. Five to ten couples receive an invitation to spend a couple of days and nights in the castle, after which a decision will be made.
