Netherlands and IMF Assist Poor Countries

On Wednesday, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Lilianne Ploumen met with IMF chief Christine Lagarde in Washington. Women and children in North Kivu, Republic of Congo (Poorest country as of 2011)
Julien Harneis/flickr Through a funding from the Netherlands, the IMF will grant poor and middle-earning countries technical support to aid them in collecting tax, setting up a practical economic policy and fighting financial crimes. Ploumen said the IMF has a range of capabilities in this field. “In fact, the demand for training and advice is now greater than it can deliver,” she said. She added that with technical assistance, IMF will improve the investment status in those nations. According to 4-traders, the Netherlands shares €2 million yearly to the IMF's technical assistance programmes. Even with the budget restraints, Ploumen is looking forward to help; however, she did not give Lagarde any assurance.
