Start of Royal Tour

In Groningen city, at the Grote Markt, people have been working until late Monday evening to prepare the visit of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima. On Tuesday the couple will start a journey to all twelve provinces. The intention of these visits is to give the people in the Netherlands a chance to see and meet the couple. The city center is fully decorated with orange, blue, white and red flags to welcome the royal couple. The capital of the province Groningen wants to show that the city has many talents during the first stop of the royal tour. After visiting Groningen city for one hour the couple will go to Leek. At the middle of the day they will meet 50 people at the border of the two provinces Groningen and Drenthe. This type of meeting will happen everyday when they move from one province to another. In the afternoon the couple will visit the places Dwingelo, Beilen and the Capital of Drenthe, Assen. The King and Queen can not stay longer than planned in Drenthe because in the evening they have to meet the president of Panama, Ricardo Martinelli, in Wassenaar. The president of Panama visits the Netherlands for three days.
