Pregnant woman stabbed to death in Utrecht town; boyfriend sought
A 34-year-old pregnant woman was stabbed to death at her home in the Utrecht town of Lopik on Monday night. It seems that the stabbing was the result of a domestic dispute, because the woman's 41-year-old boyfriend is a suspect. He fled their home shortly after the fatal stabbing and the police are still looking for him.
According to newspaper AD, the manhunt is focused on the Linschoten area. The outer area on the west of Linschoten was closed down by bulletproof vest wearing police officers at Noord Linschotendijk.. A helicopter is flying over the area and a SWAT team is standing by, according to the newspaper. The Linschoterbos is also being searched.
The stabbing happened on a residential farm on Lekdijk-Oost in Lopik around 10:00 p.m. on Monday. Emergency services tried to resuscitate the woman, but she died a short time later. How far along she was in her pregnancy is unclear.
The suspect's mother lives on the adjacent farm. On Tuesday morning she told AD that she has no idea where her son is. "I don't know more than what I hear in the media. The police tells me nothing", she said.
According to AD, a post on the suspect's Facebook account seems to be an explanation of what happened. He and his new and pregnant girlfriend built a home together on Lekdijk-Oost. His future seemed to be sunny, he wrote, according to the newspaper. But that went up in smoke because his girlfriend wanted to leave him. "That's why this happened", he wrote.
