Body of a man found in water in Amsterdam city center
The body of a deceased man was discovered Saturday morning in the water near De Ruijterkade in central Amsterdam. Authorities have ruled out foul play, according to a statement from police.
The discovery was reported around 9:30 a.m., prompting the deployment of multiple police units to the scene. Forensic investigators established a tent at the site to preserve evidence, while a calamity container was brought in for additional resources.
A boat from the water police was positioned near the body, and divers from the Arrest Team were summoned to retrieve the remains later in the day.
"The body of a deceased person has been found in the water at De Ruijterkade," the police announced on X, formerly Twitter. "Several police units are on-site, and a calamity container is being set up. Arrest Team divers are en route. If you have any information, please contact us at 0900-8844."
Police initially cordoned off the area to allow forensic teams to conduct their investigation. The man’s cause of death remains unknown, but a police spokesperson confirmed Sunday that preliminary findings indicate no signs of a criminal act.
The investigation involved officers from multiple units, divers, and forensic specialists. Authorities have asked the public to report any relevant information to assist in the ongoing inquiry.
