Dutch gov't wants high speed wireless internet for everyone

The Dutch government wants everyone in the country to have access to high speed internet. Minister Henk Kamp of Economic Affairs calls wireless internet a basic need, such as water and electricity. The government is working hard to make fast wireless internet available to everyone in the Netherlands, RTL Nieuws reports.

According to Kamp, wireless internet "developed over the past decade from an option on your computer or phone to a basic need". "Without this technology our economy stagnates", he wrote. "The need of consumers and businesses for services via wireless communication, will only increase in the coming years. Therefore the government will ensure a more efficient use of the available frequencies."

The government's policy on wireless internet will no doubt hold implications for the telecom companies' licensing conditions, which they will get next spring. These conditions may include requirements on the coverage of a wireless network, according to Kamp.
