AkzoNobel rejected an unsolicited takeover bid from American company PPG Industries, the Dutch paint and chemicals company announced on Thursday morning after PPG's bid leaked to the media. According to AkzoNobel, the PPG offer is too low and not in the interest of shareholders, customers or staff, ANP reports.

PPG offered 54 euros in cash and 0.3 PPG shares for each AkzoNobel share. Using the PPG share price on February 28th, the bid amounted to 83 euros per AkzoNobel share. The Dutch company's stock closed at 64.52 euros per share on Wednesday.

Minister Henk Kamp of Economic Affairs filed an appeal against a court ruling that stated that he can not simply refuse permission for exploratory drilling for shale gas, Omroep Flevoland reports.

The appeal was made in a case brought by British company Cuadrilla. The company wanted to do exploratory drilling for shale gas in the Noordoosttpolder, among other places. Kamp decided not to renew the company's permit to do so, given the social unrest on gas extraction.

The Agenda contains a number of measures to reduce dependency on fossil fuels and encourage sustainable living. Environmental organizations call the plan unambitious, NU.nl reports.

A total of 20 confidential documents were found in Economic Minister Henk Kamp's private email account, which he used for work puroposes for a long time, the Minister wrote to parliament on Thursday following an investigation by the national auditing service ADR. One of those documents contained a state secret with the highest classification of "Zeer Geheim", or Very Secret in English, NU.nl reports.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima's state visit to Australia and the simultaneous trade mission was a success. The trade mission brought in about 125 million euros in orders to Dutch businesses, Minsiter Henk Kamp of Economic Affairs announced in Brisbane on Friday, the Telegraaf reports.

The trade mission was comprised of 95 companies, that traveled in the wake of the Royals on their state visit. Dutch companies and their Australian partners signed contracts and cooperation agreements in a number of sectors, including water, healthcare, horticulture, IT and infrastructure.

The four Technical Universities in the Netherlands needs more money to cope with the influx of students, student organizations at the four universities and intercity student association ISO wrote in an open letter to the responsible ministers, NOS reports.

The letter is addressed to Ministers Jet Bussemaker of Education and Henk Kamp of Economic Affairs, as well as State Secretary Martijn van Dam of Economic Affairs. The Netherlands' four Technical Universities are located in Eindhoven, Delft, Wageningen and Enschede.

A massive 700-megawatt wind farm set for construction in the North Sea will cost the Dutch government 2.7 billion euros less in subsidy than initially planned. Construction of the project at the Borssele site, 22 kilometers from the Zeeland shoreline, was awarded to Danish firm DONG Energy, Economic Affairs minister Henk Kamp announced on Tuesday.
