Amsterdam cracking down on illegal houseboat rentals

The municipality of Amsterdam issued a warning to all houseboat owners in the city - keep to the rules of vacation rentals, or face a fine of 50 thousand euros, AT5 reports. To present the municipality only focused on neighbors' complaints about nuisance. Now they will also check vacation rentals for legality and control fire safety. If a houseboat does not meet the requirements, the owner will be fined. If the boat does not meet fire safety requirements, the boat will be closed for three months. Over the past months the municipality worked on mapping houseboats they believe may be involved in illegal holiday rentals - rented out for longer than 60 days a year. The owner of these boats can soon expect a visit and inspection.
