Police arrest 200 people for breaking Hague assembly ban
The police arrested not 100 but 200 people in The Hague on Thursday night for breaking the ban on assembly, the Public Prosecutor confirmed to RTL Nieuws.
Despite the ban on assembly that was enforced in Schilderswijk, The Hague on Thursday, a large group of people gathered on the Hobbemaplein on Thursday night. The riot police surrounded and arrested them.
Thursday night was the fourth night in a row of unrest in Schilderswijk following the death of Aruban man Mitch Henriquez on Sunday. Henriquez was arrested at the Night in the Park festival in the city on Saturday. He passed away on Sunday. The preliminary results of the autopsy performed on his body shows that Henriquez likely died due to suffocation, likely caused by the actions of the arresting officers.
Henriquez' family has arranged a silent memorial march in The Hague on Saturday to honour his memory. "Everyone is really welcome, provided they come with good intentions", the family writes on Facebook. "This is a silent march to be held with respect and calm."
