Ten years ago today a Turkish Airlines plane crashed in a swampy meadow on the edge of Zwanenburg, a village between Haarlem and Amsterdam. Nine people were killed - four passengers in business class, two cabin crew members and three pilots. Miraculously, 126 passengers survived, though many of them badly injured, AD reports.
Attendees of a party in the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam were surprised by an uninvited guest on Sunday. A rat snake was found on the dance floor, Amsterdam's Dierenambulance said on Facebook.
"It is a mystery how the snake ended up there", the animal rescue organization said.
One of the the guests was fortunately not afraid of the animal, and picked up the snake and kept it warm while Dierenambulance responded.
The snake spent the night at Dierenambulance, after which is was transferred to the reptile shelter in Zwanenburg.

Two king pythons were found dumped on the street in a residential neighborhood in Amsterdam on Saturday, according to Animal Ambulance Amsterdam.
The animal ambulance responded ot the residential neighborhood after receiving a report of "two large snakes" on the street. Rescuers were deployed, expecting to find grass snakes that naturally occur in Amsterdam. "On arrival we did not find grass snakes, but two king pythons." Animal Ambulance Amsterdam said on Facebook.
Police in Amsterdam arrested eight suspects connected to a plot to excessively overcharge taxi passengers picked up at Schiphol Airport. In one case investigated by authorities, a Swedish man was ordered to pay 595 euros for a ride from the airport to Amsterdam city center, a taxi fare that normally costs between 40 and 60 euros.
Two young girls from Zwanenburg, who were hospitalized on Monday after the took pills they found on the street, are doing "reasonably well", the police said in a statemetn. They are both still in the hospital, the mother of one of the girls said to RTV Noord-Holland.
The families of the two kids, 12-year-old Luca and 11-year-old Lina, were informed that their children took ecstasy, the mother Donata said to AD. She added that both girls are conscious and communicating.
Two girls aged 11 and 12 years old were rushed to the hospital on Monday night after they became ill from eating pills they found on the street in Zwanenburg, Noord-Holland. The police can't yet say what drugs were involved, a spokesperson said to NU.nl.

The police offered a 25 thousand euro reward for the tip that leads to the solution of the kidnapping cases involving 36-year-old Wendel Meijer from Landsmeer and 21-year-old Soufyan Essabaouni from Amsterdam. The reward was announced on an episode of Opsporing Verzocht on Tuesday.
