An attempt to break Omar L. from the prison in Zutphen earlier this month very nearly succeeded, and only failed because the battery of the angle grinder saw used by the suspects ran out, the Telegraaf reports based on information from sources within the prison and around the criminal investigation into the attempted prison break.
Four men were arrested on Sunday afternoon for trying to break convict Omar L. out of the prison in Zutphen, where he is serving a life sentence. The four suspects all have French nationality and a background in North Africa, the Telegraaf reports based on "well informed" sources around the investigation.
The suspects crashed a delivery van into the Zutphen prison's gate at around 10:50 a.m. on Sunday morning, the police said in a statement. The van caught fire and the suspects fled.
On Monday the Dutch police distributed calendars with information of 52 cold cases to prisoners in five prisons. They hope that the prisoners will have information that can lead to new insights in the unsolved cases, the police announced on their website.
