Pornographic and racist images were displayed on the screens of Erasmus College students during a lesson using the video app Zoom in Zoetermeer on Wednesday, prompting the school to halt its use of the popular program. Following the incident, the secondary school was advised to switch to other video platforms instead.

A hospital in Zuid-Holland today had a moment to celebrate an uplifting story in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic when it authorized the discharge of a 101-year-old woman who recovered from the respiratory illness Covid-19. The woman was kept in isolation at Ijsselland Ziekenhuis for about the past ten days after she entered the medical center complaining of a shortness of breath.

The strict requirements were part of a package of measures introduced by the Dutch government to combat the spread of the coronavirus.

A growing number of bicyclists using electric-assissted pedelec models find themselves frustrated by traffic lights which will not turn green for them as they wait by themselves at stoplights. The bikes are capable of reaching speeds of up to 45 kilometers per hour, and will be allowed to move from the roads back to the bike paths in parts of Rotterdam next week.

Since the coronavirus pandemic began in late February, police have arrested at least ten different people for threatening police, bus drivers and supermarket staff with a coronavirus infection by spitting at them or coughing on them. The incidents are causing more concern among police officers, who have already modified their approach to criminal and domestic intervention because of the ongoing health crisis.

Dutch public health agency RIVM said there were 9,762 people who tested positive for coronavirus in the Netherlands on Saturday, an increase of 1,159 over Friday's total. The agency added that 93 more people who tested positive later died, bringing the total number of Dutch fatal cases to 639.

The Salvation Army has started a campaign to bring more attention to the homeless during the time of isolation. The campaign features several homeless people while asking the Dutch public to consider how those without residences are supposed to "stay home" during the coronavirus pandemic.

There are an estimated 40 thousand homeless people in the Netherlands, double the amount ten years ago. The nonprofit organization says they provide assistance to about 15 thousand.

Several others have added a variety of children's content to entertain and educate young students forced to stay at home while their schoolhouse doors stay shut.

While the province of Noord-Brabant has seen an alarming rise in coronavirus patients, which nearly quadrupled since March 12, the overall percentage of total Dutch cases resident in the province has steadily declined. As of Thursday, Noord-Brabant was home to 842 people who tested positive for coronavirus, nearly 36 percent of the Dutch total of patients for whom their residence was known.

Just one week ago, Noord-Brabant was the home province of 46 percent of the country's cases, data from public health agency RIVM showed. By March 17 that number was below 39 percent.

The first prisoner in the Netherlands to be diagnosed with coronavirus was discovered in the prison hospital ward in Scheveningen, the correctional facilities agency DJI confirmed on Thursday. No prisoners in the Netherlands have been allowed visitation since Saturday, with some exceptions.

Prisoners are allowed meetings with their attorneys, but appointments need to be made in advance at least through April 6. Juvenile detainees are still allowed visitation with their parents and guardians.

The 2020 Eurovision Song Contest, scheduled to take place in Rotterdam, was cancelled, the broadcasters involved announced on Wednesday. The decision was made by the European Broadcasting Union, which manages the popular annual event.

"It is with deep regret that we have to announce the cancellation of the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam," the organization said in a statement. The remarks continued to say the team was "heartbroken" that the event could not be held in May as planned.

Customs officials monitoring the Rotterdam Port found five different batches of cocaine from Friday to Tuesday, the Public Prosecution Service (OM) said in separate statements. Over 250 kilograms of cocaine was recovered, and eight different people suspected of involvement were arrested.

Tilburg and Breda, the two cities in the Netherlands home to the most patients with coronavirus, were also the two cities with the biggest increase in patients since Sunday. Both cities are located in the Noord-Brabant province, where at least 554 of the country's 1,413 patients reside. 

The patient data released by the RIVM showed that 249 of the country's 355 municipalities are home to at least one coronavirus patient. All 12 provinces in the Netherlands now have at least 10 people who have been screened by health officials and diagnosed with the virus.

The policy was introduced at about 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, and included a mandate that all restaurants, bars, cafes, fitness centers, saunas, sex clubs, and coffeeshops close from 6 p.m. on Sunday through April 6.

There were 446 known cases of residents testing positive with coronavirus in the province of Noord-Brabant, figures released by health agency RIVM showed on Sunday. The increase of 43 patients meant the province was far outpacing any of the other 11 in terms of new cases discovered. It was home to over 41 percent of all patients in the Netherlands, based on the known residences of 1,077 patients, the RIVM said.

Police say a terrifying home invasion robbery in Rotterdam left a young mother fearing for her life and the life of her young daughter. The two were tied up and held at gunpoint by two unknown assailants speaking to each other in Papiamento.

It happened Tuesday at about 9:30 a.m. on the Zevenkampse Ring. The 24-year-old woman was leaving with her two-year-old girl when she was pushed back into her home by one of the robbers. He was then assisted by his partner.

There was a massive jump in positive coronavirus tests since Saturday afternoon among people living in Breda, according to statistics provided by health agency RIVM. The city is now home to 16 people with the new strain of the virus, out of 90 across the Noord-Brabant province.

Breda is now the city in the Netherlands with the most positive cases, followed by Rotterdam with 14, Houten and Utrecht with 13 each, and Tilburg with 12. There were six people being treated in Amsterdam and Eindhoven.

A 38-year-old man was sentenced to six weeks in jail this week for striking a 10-year-old boy outside a grocery store in Dordrecht. The boy had asked the man for his collectible football stickers being given away as a store promotion when the violent incident occurred.

The boy was waiting outside of the Albert Heijn in the Stadspolder district on February 12th, asking many of the store's customers for the packets of stickers. The offender snapped, struck the boy, and then shoved him. He was arrested after store employees identified him to police.

A new dataset released by health authority RIVM showed that a plurality of those who tested positive for coronavirus live in Noord-Brabant. Overall, some 57 of the country's 188 patients, a little over 30 percent, reside in the southern province.

All residents of the Noord-Brabant province were advised to stay home if they have symptoms of a cold, a cough, or a fever, health agency RIVM said on Friday. The warning came after it emerged that the province is the hardest hit of the Netherlands, with 34 of the country's 128 positive coronavirus cases residing in municipalities there, an NL Times analysis of RIVM statistics shows.

Eight new patients were diagnosed with coronavirus on Monday, health agency RIVM said on Monday. "This brings the total number of positive tests in the Netherlands to 18," the agency stated.

"Nearly all new persons diagnosed with the new coronavirus are travelers from northern Italy or are family contacts of a previous patient," the statement continued. The health service GGD is now investigating who the new patients have made contact with recently.

Two patients escaped from a psychiatric prison in Poortugaal, Zuid-Holland on Sunday afternoon. They took an employee hostage under threat of a firearm and knife, and then fled. During their arrest, one was shot by the police and killed, the Public Prosecution said.

The two psychiatric prisoners escaped from clinic Kijvelanden at around 4:30 p.m. Once outside, they got into a taxi and drove off. The police gave chase and brought the taxi to a halt on the A15 near Kesteren in Gelderland,
