A crash between two ships in the early morning hours of Tuesday may lead to the contamination of the Dutch coast as oil slicks from one of the ships head towards the Zeeland shore. Dutch ship Flinterstar took on water and partially sunk onto a sandbar after the accident, sending 11 people overboard, all of whom were safely rescued.Belgian and Dutch emergency crews are working hard to clean the fuel leaking from the Flinterstar, broadcaster NOS reported. Three-kilometer long oil slicks could reach Zeeland as early as 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

At least four people were injured Wednesday morning when two different explosions occurred in a biomass power plant in Borssele, Zeeland, the regional safety office reported. The office says all four were hospitalized, however broadcaster Omroep Zeeland says two people received serious injuries and were rushed to an area hospital and the others were treated at the scene.
