King Willem-Alexander and his family will be entertained with a "surprising and versatile" program that showcases the "colorful region and culture" when they visit Maastricht for King's Day on April 27th. The theme of the King's birthday celebration will be Leef Maastricht!, the Telegraaf reports.

King Willem-Alexander is currently in Jerusalem, at the invitation of Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, for the World Holocaust Forum. On Thursday, the Dutch King will visit the Yad Vashem museum and the Dutch care home Beth Juliana, ahead of Holocaust Remembrance Day next week.

Yad Vashem is the official Israeli memorial center for the Jewish victims of the Holocaust. The institute documents and commemorates the fates of European Jews during the Second World War and honors the people who worked to help the Jews at the time.

In his speech at the General Assembly of the United Nations, King Willem-Alexander called on Russia to cooperate in the investigation into the downing of flight MH17. "The relatives of the 298 victims expect justice and we will not rest until justice is done", the Dutch King said. King Willem-Alexander also spoke on climate change and LGBTQ rights in his speech. The Dutch economy is strong and the outlook for next year remains positive, but risks are looming from abroad, Dutch King Willem-Alexander said in his Budget Day speech for 2019. 

"A strong economy is needed to further build on a strong Netherlands", King Willem-Alexander started his speech on Tuesday. The outlook for next year remains, positive, but the reality is that the growth will level out in the coming years. "Our economy is sensitive to international developments such as trade wars and the Brexit", the King warned.

The excellent 2019 World Cup tournament run by the Dutch women's national football team came to a disappointing end on Sunday night when the United States beat the Netherlands 2-0. In a match where Dutch goalkeeper Sari van Veenendaal racked up save after save securing the Golden Glove for the tournament, the U.S. was able to consistently pierce Dutch coach Sarina Wiegman's defensive strategy until a penalty broke the match wide open in the 61st minute.

After opening the new Museum Sophiahof in The Hague on Thursday, King Willem-Alexander stopped to speak to a group of demonstrators protesting against the opening of the museum, which focuses on the cultural and historical legacy of the Dutch East Indies. The protesters are descendants of soldiers and civil servants who worked under the administration of the then Dutch East Indies, but never received salary during the Japanese occupation between 1942 and 1945, NOS reports.

King Willem-Alexander is in London on Monday to be invested as a Knight of the Garter. British Queen Elizabeth appointed him to the Order of the Garter during his state visit to the United Kingdom last year. In the St. George Chapel at Windsor Castle on Monday, a garter belt will be placed on the Dutch King's left leg, NOS reports.

The Netherlands remembered the victims of the Second World War with commemorations across the country on Saturday. King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima and Prime Minister Mark Rutte attended the National Commemoration in Amsterdam on Saturday evening. Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema stressed that the the lack of freedom during the war must be passed on so that it can be remembered "as if the war were yesterday. Their sympathies are with the victims, and their thoughts with the residents of Utrecht, they said in a statement on the Koninklijk Huis website. Though the fly-by was a scheduled event, it was kept as a closely-held secret, frightening many people who took to social media concerned about what they had seen.
