Winter weather will be blowing into the Netherlands this week. Weeronline.nl said today that the meteorological winter starts today and that temperature in the country will drop as of midweek,with a chance of snow on Friday.
A small earthquake occurred in Appingedam, 20 kilometers northeast of Groningen, Nieuws.nl reports quoting a spokesman for the KNMI.
A severe storm from the southwest moved across The Netherlands on Monday. The KNMI issued a code red, the highest weather alert, for extreme weather in the west, center and north of the country. The alert was withdrawn around 14:45 pm.
One woman is dead, and her husband is injured, after parts of a tree fell on them as they were walking on the Herengracht in Amsterdam. Another person was killed in a separate incident on the Ceintuurbaan when a tree crashed down onto a car.
The stormy weather in the Netherlands continues on Monday. The Dutch Meteorological Institute (KNMI) announced a code orange for Monday.
On Sunday wind gusts of 100 km/hr were measured near IJmuiden. The KNMI expects speeds up to 140 km/hr on Monday.
