Police officers are struggling with a massive workload due to increasing duties and a growing staff shortage, police unions ACP, NPB, VMHP and ANPV warned at a press conference in The Hague on Thursday. They call on the Justice Minister, the police leadership, mayors, and the Public Prosecution Service to pick which crimes will get priority in the coming year, because the police "can't do everything", NOS reports.

The Dutch police unions are calling on their members to only respond to emergency reports in the weekend of September 14th to 16th, and to perform no other of their duties. This forms part of long ongoing labor actions for a better collective bargaining agreement for the police, NOS reports.

This is the most severe labor action ever taken by the police, a spokesperson for the unions said to NOS. "But we have to take this step. If noting changes now, we will soon not be able to be there when citizens need us." The action will have major consequences, according to the unions.

People traveling through Utrecht Central Station on Monday morning should take delays into account due to police officers protesting for a better collective bargaining agreement, according to the police unions. Between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., the police will construct cordons around the station in a labor action they call "danger zone", NU.nl reports.

Travelers will only be able to enter and leave the station through these cordons. This will cause delays, according to police unions ACP, NPB, ANPV an VMHP.
