An 18-year-old Vlaardingen man was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of trying to extort sexual favors from over 20 victims using the popular messaging app Snapchat, police confirmed on Thursday.
Strong gusts of wind damaged mainly trees in the coastal provinces of the Netherlands on Sunday. As the trees are carrying their spring leaves, they are extra vulnerable to winds. A fire in a flat on Zwaluwenlaan in Vlaardingen left one man dead on Sunday. The fire broke out in the kitchen of the first floor apartment, and was discovered when smoke passed through ventilation ducts and set off smoke alarms on upper floors, a spokesperson for the fire brigade said to ANP.
Firefighters found the man's body in the apartment. Attempts to resuscitate him were to no avail. The fire department quickly extinguished the fire and is investigating how it started.
Seven men arrested on Thursday were "already a long way" into their plans to commit a terrorist attack in the Netherlands, according to Minister Ferdinand Grapperhaus of Justice and Security. "It is very intense that there are people walking around who have this planned for us", he said to RTL Nieuws.

Passersby saw the dead fish floating in the lake on Wednesday morning and called Staatsbosbeheer, which decided to close down the area around the lake. Visitors were already warned against swimming in the lake due to blue-green algae.

A 19-year-old man was injured in a shooting in Vlaardingen on Thursday night. The police are looking for four suspects, ANP reports.
