Holiday rentals are harming Amsterdam neighborhoods, according to the Amsterdam Court of Audit. Reports of nuisance caused by tourists are not handled, and landlords feel "hunted" by complaints from neighbors. This can lead to disagreeable living situations. The city is also at risk of losing millions of euros in unpaid fines for housing fraud, the Court of Audit concluded, NU.nl and Het Parool report.

All coffeeshops throughout the Netherlands must refuse to serve tourists, according to coalition party ChristenUnie. Parliamentarian Stieneke van der Graaf called on Minister Ferdinand Grapperhaus of Justice and Security to get municipalities to arrange for their coffeeshops to ban people who do not live in the Netherlands, AD reports.

The fact that many municipalities, like the big cities, allow coffeeshops to sell to tourists makes the Netherlands "known as a country where you can use drugs and enjoy yourself", Van der Graaf said. She wants to get rid of that reputation.

Jawed S., a 20-year-old man who stabbed two American tourists at Amsterdam Central Station last year, was sentenced to 26 years in prison by the court in Amsterdam on Monday. He was convicted to two counts of attempted murder with terrorist intent, and three counts of threatening a police officer, NOS reports.

The trial against Jawed S., the man suspected of stabbing two American tourists at Amsterdam Central Station on August 31st last year, starts in the high security court in Amsterdam on Monday. The two victims will be present at the trial. The three police officers who stopped S.'s attack and arrested him will also speak in the trial, with their identities hidden for security reasons, RTL Nieuws and Nieuwsuur report.

A 20-year-old Australian man was found dead in a hostel on Spuistraat in Amsterdam on Saturday morning. The police are investigating the cause of his death.

Emergency services responded to the hostel at around 11:00 a.m. after a report that the man was unwell. When they arrived, the man had already died.

The police are investigating how he died. "The detectives take into account that the use of (hard) drugs may have played a role", the police said in a statement.

The police arrested three men on th A16 highway near Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht on Sunday night for impersonating police officers and trying to fine tourists. They were dressed in clothes that resemble the Dutch police uniform, the Dordrecht police said on Facebook.

At a parking lot on the A16, the fake cops asked a tourist for his ID documents. The tourist did not trust the situation and called the police. The fake cops fled towards Rotterdam.

The public transit strike left train stations throughout the Netherlands largely deserted on Tuesday morning. People gathered in the stations were largely tourists who did not know about the strike.

Tourists Rachel, Angie, and Acqua were caught by surprise when they arrived at Amsterdam Central Station. They have a hotel booked in Rotterdam. A volunteer from Red Cross explained the strike to them.

A campaign is being launched to keep tourists out of the flower fields in the Bollenstreek. Banners, signs, barriers and volunteers must all ensure that tourists don't crush the flowers while trying to take a nice photograph. "Everyone is welcome, but we want it to remain fun for everyone", flower bulb gower and initiator Simon Pennings said to Omroep West.

"I've been growing bulbs for 40 years, but it's actually getting worse", Pennings said to the broadcaster. "They walk across the fields and jump from path to path. That causes damage, they trample the tulips."

A tourist was hit by a car on an exit from the A2 in Amsterdam on Tuesday night. The 21-year-old woman was taken to hospital. She was under the influence, NOS reports.

How seriously the tourist was injured is not known, but she was conscious and able to speak to emergency workers, according to the broadcaster. The exit at the Amstel junction was closed for a time for investigation.

A tourist nearly lost a watch worth 150 thousand euros to muggers in Amsterdam on Sunday night. The police arrested two suspects and were able to recover the expensive watch, AT5 reports.

The tourist was in the vicinity of Dam square when he was mugged. The robbers took the watch and fled. 

A motorcycle officer spotted one of the suspects shortly afterwards. The suspect resisted arrest and tried to throw the watch away. Fortunately for the victim, the officer saw it happen and the watch was retrieved. The second suspect was arrested after a short search.

A video was posted on YouTube showing a family barely escaping aggressive cheetahs after getting out of their car in Dutch safari park Beekse Bergen. The park could not confirm whether the footage is real, RTL Nieuws reports.

The rule in Beekse Bergen is do not get out of your car. But this family seems to have missed that rule.

They parked their car next to sunbathing cheetahs and got out to take some pictures. A small child also got out of the car to peek around the corner. Nothing happens.

A man was seriously hurt when he fell from a second floor window of a building on Dam Square in Amsterdam on Monday afternoon. The police believe it was an accident, a spokesperson for the police said to NU.nl.

The incident happened around 3:15 p.m. on Monday. According to Amsterdam broadcaster AT5, the man involved is a tourist. He fell from the window of Shelter City Hostel on Barndsteeg, the broadcaster reports. The man was conscious after his fall.

Some 850 foreign tourists will visit the Netherlands this long Easter weekend, 100 thousand fewer than last year, national tourism office NBTC Holland Marketing expects. Together these foreign visitors will spend around 250 million euros over the coming days, AD reports.

Most foreign visitors come from Germany and Belgium. For them their neighbor the Netherlands is a popular destination, particularly for short holidays, according to the tourism office.

A 34-year-old tourist jumped through a third floor window in a hostel on Linnaeusstraat in Amsterdam-Oost on Wednesday evening. He was taken to hospital. The man was under the influence of truffles, according to Het Parool. 

Emergency services responded to the hostel around 6:10 p.m. A witness saw the tourist jump from the third floor window, landing on a lower roof and then falling to the ground. According to the police, the man was unable to speak with them when he was taken to hospital. The extent of his injuries is unclear.

A tourist was killed on Maho Beach on Sint Maarten, the beach located next to the runway of the Princess Juliana airport in Philipsburg. She stood by the fence that separate the beach and runway and was blown away by a departing plane, NOS reports.

The woman hit her head against a concrete block. She was rushed to the hospital, but died of her injuries.

According to 721 News, the victim is a 57-year-old woman from New Zealand. The accident happened around 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

A young tourist was inured in Amsterdam on Saturday after getting into an argument with her Airbnb host. A video of the incident shows the young woman being pushed down a flight of stairs by a man. The man, 47-years-old from Amsterdam, was arrested, a police spokesperson confirmed to the Telegraaf.
