Dutch soldiers training local security forces in Iraq

The Dutch military training mission in Iraq was suspended due to an increased threat in the region. The nature of the threat is unknown. The commander of the international coalition that coordinates training in the region ordered the mission to stop, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense said to NU.nl.

This temporary halt applies to all international allies who provide training in the area. Some 50 to 60 Dutch soldiers were ordered to cease their work "until further notice" due to an increased threat.

Two people were arrested in a Pathé cinema in the center of The Hague on Thursday. They showed 'threatening behavior' in one of the cinemas, during the film Hotel Mumbai which is about an attack on a hotel in Mumbai in 2008, NOS reports.

A 16-year-old boy who went to his Roermond school heavily armed last year, tried to murder two people, according to the Public Prosecutor. The boy will therefore be charged with double attempted murder, De Limburger reports.

The project includes the police and Public Prosecutor giving high priority to finding perpetrators of violence or aggression against journalists, harsher punishment demands for these crimes, and a hotline where journalists can report incidents, the police said in a statement.

A 21-year-old woman from Nijmegen who was arrested on Monday for involvement in death threats made against FvD leader Thierry Baudet during an anti-racism protest in Amsterdam, regrets what she did. In a statement to the police, she said that "underestimated the impact of her words", NU.nl reports.

The woman was released again on Tuesday evening.

On Monday the police arrested a 21-year-old woman from Nijmegen for involvement in threats made against FvD leader Thierry Baudet during an anti-racism demonstration in Amsterdam on Saturday. 

Over the weekend, videos filmed at the protest were posted online, showing a protester with a scarf over their face singing: "If you want to shoot Thierry, then say bang."

The police temporarily cordoned off the Grote Markt in Haarlem on Thursday morning after a suspicious package was found in front of the city hall. Investigation revealed that it was just an empty suitcase, ANP reports.

The suitcase was found on the landing of the city hall, which is located on Grote Markt, early in the morning. Defense's explosive disposal service investigated the suitcase and determined that it contained nothing dangerous. The square was released again at around 8:30 a.m.

The police call on witnesses who saw the suitcase being left there to come forward.

An 18-year-old man from Amsterdam was arrested at the end of last year for threatening to commit a school shooting. Footage of other school shootings and bomb attacks were found on his phone. The arrest was only announced now due to the personal circumstances and the young age of the suspect, a spokesperson for the Public Prosecutor said to AT5.

The suspect was arrested after the posted a comment on a YouTube video saying that he was planning his own school shooting, according to the Amsterdam broadcaster. The man was busy making firearms and knives and acquiring a balaclava.

The maximum prison sentence for threatening a public official must be increased from two to four years, and the Minister is also looking into how the government can confiscate more money and possessions from serious criminals, he said in an interview with the Telegraaf.

Wageningen University and Research has been threatened and harassed by a rejected student for years, to such an extent that the university was forced to get extra security. The university is now going to court to try and get the man to stop. "We find this extremely annoying", spokesperson Simon Vink of Wageningen University said to AD. "It has also been going on for years with peaks in which it is really intense."

Officials of the municipality of The Hague were threatened by builders of traditional bonfires in the run-up to New Year's, according to minutes of a meeting released on Thursday. The builders of the Scheveningen and Duindorp bonfires also threatened each other, the municipality's Security director said during a meeting with the municipality, the police and Public Prosecutor on December 31st, NU.nl reports.

The threats may be connected to the decision to ban traditional New Year's fires in the municipality, according to the broadcaster. This decision resulted in a flood of criticism on the city government, and the mayor specifically.

Train traffic on the Arnhem-Utrecht route was disrupted on Wednesday afternoon due to a suspicious situation on a train. A man was arrested around 2:00 p.m. on a train at Veenendaal-De Klomp station. The man shouted that he had a bomb, witnesses said to Omroep Gelderland.

Exactly what happened is not clear. A police spokesperson told the Gelderlander that they received a report that the man wanted to hurt people.

STIP, a special education high school on Europalaan in Utrecht, was evacuated on Thursday afternoon due to a telephonic threat. One suspect was arrested, the Telegraaf reports.

Where the threat came from, and what exactly it entailed, is not yet clear. The police are taking it seriously and are investigating the incident.

Police officers in bullet proof vests were present at the school on a large scale. All pupils and teachers were safely evacuated from the school, the STIP director said to the Telegraaf.

The police arrested a man for positing a video online on Monday evening in which the Mondial College in Nijmegen is threatened with a firearm. The video shows an automatic firearm being loaded by someone, accompanied by the text: "Do not go to Mondial College tomorrow", NU.nl reports. 

The police investigated the video and concluded "that there was no actual threat", according to the newspaper. The video has since been taken offline.

The police are investigating a possible threat against Heilige Sava, a Serbian Orthodox Church in Nijmegen. Church services for Sunday and Monday were canceled as a precaution while the police investigate, NU.nl reports.

Dobbelmannweg, where the church is located, was closed by the police for several hours on Sunday.

Heilige Sava had Christmas celebrations scheduled for Sunday evening and Monday morning. The church's website states that these services were canceled for security reasons.

A 16-year-old girl shot dead at her school in Rotterdam on Tuesday reported to the police that the man suspected of killing her was threatening her. Two men from Hengelo were arrested on Monday on suspicion of involvement in the murder of four men in Enschede earlier this month. The two are also suspected of a serious violent crime committed in Hengelo, the police said in a statement.

The incident in Hengelo happened on November 7th. A man was assaulted, threatened with a firearm and shots were fired, the police said. The suspects are 32 and 57 years old. They were arrested in a house in Hengelo and on the A1 near Enter.
