Hand grenades were found in The Hague and Zandvoort on Monday. The explosive in The Hague was discovered early in the morning, the one in Zandvoort in the afternoon.

The grenade in Zandvoort was found near a school on Doctor C.A. Gerkestraat, according to NH Nieuws. The police told children in the schoolyard to go inside while explosive experts investigated. The explosive was safely removed.

May said on Monday that she wants extra promises from her European Union colleagues in the Brexit deal. She will visit many of them, starting with Rutte in the Catshuis on Tuesday, NOS reports.

The Netherlands and United Kingdom have a very good relationship, despite the Brexit plans.

At least 13 large municipalities and a number of smaller ones will be experimenting with voluntary firework-free zones this New Year's, the Volkskrant reports after speaking with the 44 largest municipalities in the Netherlands.

The municipality provides signboards for such firework-free zones, but not enforcements. Local residents can apply for a firework-free zone, and it is up to them to enforce it. The mayors hope to reduce fireworks nuisance without incurring high costs in this way, according to the newspaper.

Protest movement "yellow vests" announced a protest march in Amsterdam on Saturday. Protesters will gather at the Stopera at 11:30 a.m. and then march along the Amstel and around the city hall. The protest was reported to the municipality, a spokesperson for Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema said to Het Parool.

The police arrested two leaders of Caloh Wagoh on Wednesday morning and are currently raiding over 40 locations linked to the outlaw motorcycle gang. The two leaders, men aged 48 and 70, were arrested in Mijdrecht and Leiden. They're in custody for questioning, the police said in a statement.

The raids are being done by police units Den Haag, Midden Nederland, Rotterdam, Amsterdam and Oost Nederland. SWAT teams were deployed in various locations. This major police action, involving over 800 police officers, forms part of a larger investigation into undermining crime.

A collision between a train and a person resulted far fewer trains running to and from Schiphol airport on Friday morning. Travelers should take considerable delays into account, a spokesperson for rail company NS said to NU.nl.

"There are problems especially from the south towards Schiphol", the spokesperson said. "There are far fewer trains from the direction of Rotterdam."

Passengers departing from Amsterdam, The Hague, Leiden and Zaandam can also take delays into account. The problems are expected to persist until at least 9:30 a.m., according to the NS site.

The police arrested a man who had covered himself in petrol or another flammable liquid at the Polish embassy in The Hague on Monday afternoon. A negotiator tried to reason with the man, but he was eventually overpowered by a SWAT team, NOS reports.

Emergency services, including firefighters, police and ambulances, responded to the embassy in large numbers. The man was taken to hospital to check whether he had inhaled any toxic fumes, after which he went to a police station for questioning. So far the police did not say anything about the man's identity or motive.

Prime Minister Mark Rutte will investigate whether the burial chamber under the Eerste Kamer in The Hague can be opened to search for the remains of former statesman Johan van Oldenbarnevelt, who was beheaded at the Binnenhof nearly 400 years ago. The police arrested a member of outlaw motorcycle gang Caloh Wagoh in connection with the in Spijkenisse in September last year. A 22-year-old man from Zoetermeer was arrested in The Hague on Wednesday afternoon for threats. Witnesses reported to the police that he was standing at a car with a hissing gas bottle, shouting 'Allahu Akbar'. His motive is not clear. "All possible scenarios are being investigated", the police said, Omroep West reports.

The man was arrested on Telexstraat next to the HTM building at around 2:00 p.m. by members of a special police unit. A helicopter was deployed to the scene, and police officers were stationed on a nearby roof with guns pointed at the man.

Judge Jan Wolter Wabeke officially withdrew from a lawsuit filed by a group of anti-smokers against the tobacco industry. On Monday the lawyer representing this group, Benedicte Ficq, accused the judge of being biased. Later in the day the court in The Hague granted Wabeke's request to withdraw, NOS reports.

Ficq told the media that he learned through an acquaintance that Wabeke had been "condescending" about this case while speaking in private, saying that smoking is the smoker's own responsibility. Ficq asked him to withdraw.

A person was found dead on the side of Houtrustweg in The Hague on Tuesday morning. The identity of the victim is not yet known. The police are investigating.

The body was found between the bushes and the drainage canal, opposite the water treatment plant, Omroep West reports.

According to the broadcaster, a tent, clothes and a clothes line was found near the body.
