A 20-year-old man from Rotterdam was arrested in connection with a fatal stabbing at Capelsebrug subway station in Rotterdam on Monday morning. The victim was a 20-year-old man from Lekkerkerk, the police said in a statement.

The stabbing happened on the platform of Cepelsebrug subway station towards De Terp at around 10:00 a.m. on Monday. First responders tried to resuscitate the victim, but it was to no avail. He died at the scene.

A person was stabbed to death at the Capelsebrug subway station in Rotterdam on Monday morning following what witnesses described as a scuffle. The perpetrator is still at large, the Rotterdam police said on Twitter. 

Emergency services, including a trauma team by helicopter, responded to the subway station on Abraham van Rijckevorseplein just before 10:00 a.m. First responders tried to resuscitate the victim, but it was to no avail. They died at the scene. So far the police released no information regarding the victim's identity.

Public transport prices in the Netherlands increased more over the past decade that the costs involved in driving your own car, Statistics Netherlands reported on Monday. In July of this year, public transit prices were 30 percent higher than in 2009. Personal car costs increased by 25 percent in this same period. For comparison, consumer products and -services prices increased by 18 percent in this period. 

In the Netherlands, the amount of money spent on car costs is 10 times higher than that spent on public transit.

Police in Amsterdam were looking for any witnesses to a violent incident on metro line 50 when a gun was pulled out and pointed at someone’s head during an argument between passengers. The incident happened at about 4:40 p.m. inside a subway train bound for Gein.

Authorities say it all started when two men entered a metro car together behind a third man at the Sloterdijk station. The two men harassed several women in the subway, police said, including one who was seated opposite the third man. He spoke up in defense of the women.

Police released frightful security camera footage showing the explosion and aftermath at an Amsterdam subway station in March. The blast was part of a robbery attempt at an ATM inside the Ganzenhoef subway station in Amsterdam Zuidoost.

Some 300 thousand euros in damage was caused to the station on March 21, though the robbers made off with very little cash, police told broadcaster AT5. The suspects were unable to steal the cash cassettes used to store money inside the ATM.

Amsterdam's new Noord-Zuid subway line, which opened last year, will be extended to Schiphol and Hoofddorp, Schiphol CEO Dick Benschop announced at the airport's New Year's reception on Monday. The parties involved reached an agreement to do so at the end of last year. It is no longer a question of if, but when the subway line will be extended, Benschop said, NU.nl reports.

Subway station Stadhuis in Rotterdam will be closed for at least two and a half weeks after asbestos was found there on Tuesday. The subway between Rotterdam Central Station and Beurs may start running again sooner, but then it won't stop at Stadhuis, Rotterdam transport company RET said, RTV Rijnmond reports.

The first official traveling day for Amsterdam's new Noord-Zuid subway line happened almost without a hitch on Sunday. By 5:45 p.m. only one train did not run according to schedule, a spokesperson for Amsterdam public transit company GVB said to Het Parool.

As a result, passengers had to wait 12 minutes for their train, instead of six minutes. "Within half an hour, the subway was back on schedule", the spokesperson said. The GVB deployed extra personnel to help guide travelers on the first day of running.

An increasing number of people who use public transit in the Netherlands are faced with violence like threats, assault, intimidation or robbery, according to a survey by CROW among 87 thousand public transit passengers, the Telegraaf reports.

In 2017 the number of such incidents on public transport increased slightly for the first time in five years. Last year 15.5 percent of passengers reported facing violence or aggression, compared to 13.5 percent in 2016. CROW could not give a definite explanation for the increase.

Anti-terrorism unit DSI performed a major drill at Rotterdam subway station Blaak during the early hours of Thursday morning. They practiced a scenario involving a terrorist attack happening on King's Day, NOS reports.

Dozens of extras decked out in orange clothing took part in the drill, to make the exercise as realistic as possible. Multiple volunteers played injured people. During the exercise, members of the DSI had to disable the "terrorists" and evacuate the wounded, according to the broadcaster. Dozens of DSI members took part in the drill.

Amsterdam's new Noord-Zuid subway line will definitely start running on July 22nd, though on a modified timetable, the parties involved announced on Thursday, ANP reports.

The involved parties are confident that service can safely start on the line, which connects Amsterdam Noord to Zuidas, on that date. Though transit company GVB warns that travelers should take teething problems, like disruptions, into account "in the first half year".

A man was hit on the head with a hammer after an argument in an Amsterdam subway on Sunday evening. The victim was taken to hospital. The police are looking for three men, Het Parool reports.

The incident happened around 7:40 p.m. on subway 54 towards Gein. The man and three others had an argument. Between the stops at Amstelstation and Van der Madeweg, one of the three men attacked him with a hammer, a police spokesperson said to the newspaper.

The arrest of a gang of graffiti taggers at a subway station in Amsterdam Nieuw-West, was aired on television program De Meldkamer on Sunday night. A total of five vandals were arrested. One had to go to hospital, because he received a 750 volt electric shock while fleeing over the subway tracks before the police turned off the power, AT5 reports.

On December 29th, an experiment will start with running night subways in Rotterdam and its surrounding areas. For one year, transit company RET will run subways on all lines for an hour longer on Fridays and Saturdays. This means that the last subway will leave Rotterdam at 1:30 a.m., AD reports.

It seems that the man who stabbed a 38-year-old man to death on an Amsterdam subway on Thursday, did not know his victim, the Public Prosecutor said during the suspect's arraignment on Monday. The motive for the attack is still unclear, Het Parool reports.

A 38-year-old man was stabbed to death on an Amsterdam subway during rush hour on Tuesday evening. Bystanders and emergency services tried to resuscitate the Amsterdam man, and he was rushed to hospital, but he died of his injuries, Het Parool reports.

The stabbing happened on subway 53, near the Venserpolder stop at Dalsteindreef in Zuidoost around 6:00 p.m. A 27-year-old man from Amsterdam was arrested almost immediately after the stabbing. He initially fled the scene, but the police quickly tracked him down. The circumstances surrounding the stabbing are being investigated.

Municipal public transit company GVB is calling on Amsterdam to commit to building another new subway line in order to keep up with the city's growth. In addition to the new Noord-Zuid subway line set to start operating next year, an Oost-West line will also be needed, GVB director Alexandra van Huffelen said in an interview with NRC.

A fault that brought subway traffic in Amsterdam to a standstill on Wednesday morning, is now mostly resolved. No movement was possible on subway lines 50, 51, 53 and 54 since around 8:45 a.m. Around 10:30 a.m. the subways started moving again, ANP reports.

Subway line 50, 53 and 54 are traveling according to schedule, according to municipal transport company GVB. Line 51 is traveling, but only to Spaklerweg for the time being.

Subway traffic in Amsterdam was again brought to a standstill due to a fault on Wednesday morning. There is currently no traveling on subway lines 50, 51, 53 and 54, ANP reports.

The fault occurred on one of the lines, but municipal transport company GVB decided to halt all subways for safety reasons, a spokesperson for the company said to the news wire. What the problem is exactly is unclear. The spokesperson also could not say how long it will take to fix.

Traffic on Amsterdam's subway lines are back on schedule after a fault in the traffic control system brought it to a standstill on Monday afternoon. The problems started around 2:00 p.m. and affected all lines. Subway traffic gruadually restarted around 6:30 p.m., according to municipal transport company GVB, NU.nl reports.

Subway line 51 fell out again on Monday night due to another fault on the traffic control system, but that fault has also beenf fixed. GVB reports no problems on the subway lines at present.

The Noord/Zuid subway line in Amsterdam will only be put into operation on 22 July 2018, instead of previously announced October 2017, due to new setbacks, traffic alderman Pieter Litjens announced at a press conference on Friday, Het Parool reports. There will be no extra costs.
