Inflation in the Netherlands increased to 0.4 percent in October, the highest level of the past six months, according to Statistics Netherlands on Thursday. In September inflation was still at 0.1 percent. 

According to Statistics Netherlands, the increase in inflation can mainly be attributed to higher petrol and diesel prices. In October a liter of gasoline cost 1.52 euros on average, 4 cents more than a year earlier. The price of motor fuels hasn't been this high in over a year, according to the statistics office.

A fifth of Dutch companies with at least 10 employees analyze so-called Big Data - large amounts of unstructured data, according to Statistics Netherlands. This often involves analysis of their own data, but one in 10 companies also analyze data from outside the company.

Big data analysis is more common in large companies than smaller ones. About 15 percent of companies with between 10 and 20 employees do it, compared to 42 percent of companies with 500 or more employees.

The unemployment rate for young people with a basic qualification is also higher than before the financial crisis. In the Netherlands a basic qualification is considered a completed MBO level 2, HAVO or VWO

The retirement age is currently slowly being increased from 65 to 67 years. From the moment retirement age reaches 67 years in 2021, retirement age will increase along with life expectancy.
