Politicians in Nieuwegein raised concerns about the number of violent incidents in the Utrecht city, following shots being fired at a home on Beatrixstraat during the early hours of Wednesday morning. With shots being fired at homes, and the assassination of Timon Badloe on the Apollo Bridge in November last year, Nieuwegein is starting to look like Amsterdam, local politician Marc Snoeren said to newspaper AD.

The PvdA faction in Meppel posted an advertisement in the Meppeler Courant on Tuesday, to announce the start of the faction's campaign for the municipal election in March. But in an unfortunate blunder, the wrong logo was used in the ad. Instead of the normal PvdA logo of a flower with a fist in its middle, the hand in this logo has its middle finger raised on high.

The SP and PvdA raised concerns about a website targeting young people with mental and physical disabilities to recruit them for sex work. "The site recruits vulnerable young people for sex work. That is crazy", SP parliamentarian Jasper van Dijk said, according to RTL Nieuws. The parties want the government to ban this site.

The Tweede Kamer wants to know from the Minister of Justice and Security why the police are not acting against a Russian site on which pedophiles are massively sharing photos of children, including Dutch children. On Tuesday the Belgian police launched an investigation into the site, RTL Nieuws reports.

The VVD's integrity committee is launching an investigation into parliamentarian Wybren van Haga, who is accused of not following new rules on rental housing that Amsterdam implemented at the start of this year, a spokesperson for the party confirmed to NU.nl.

On Saturday Het Parool reported that Van Haga is violating Amsterdam's stricter rules on housing rental with several of his properties in the Dutch capital.

Emile Roemer is resigning as party chairman and leader of socialist party SP, he announced in a cafe in The Hague on Wednesday. He is also leaving the Tweede Kamer, the lower house of Dutch parliament, early in January, RTL Nieuws reports

"It's time someone else takes over the baton", Roemer said. "I do not want to be a politician who left too late. My part of the mission is over."

By the end of this government's term in 2021, the energy bill for Dutch households will be on average 175 euros more expensive than this year, Minister Eric Wiebes of Economic Affairs and Climate said in a parliamentary debate on Thursday. Next year, households can expect an average energy bill increase of 45 euros, NU.nl reports.

Wiebes emphasized that this is an estimate, but if there is no change in policy, households can take these increases into account.

The parties' plans mainly have to do with taxes and climate.

A mortar grenade that killed two Dutch soldiers during a training exercise in Mali last year was one of a thousand grenades that were unsafe - something the Ministry of Defense was aware of, Jean Debie, chairman of defense union VBM said to RTL Nieuws. If Defense followed its own safety procedures, 29-year-old Henry Hoving and 24-year-old Kevin Roggeveld would still be alive, Debie said. A third soldier sustained serious injuries.

Minister Ronald Plasterk of Home Affairs decided to put an end to political party SP's unique payroll arrangement in which the salaries of all SP politicians are paid into the party's account. The Minister agreed with the Dutch municipalities and provinces that they will pay SP salaries directly to the politicians, and he will discuss this with the Eerste Kamer and Tweede Kamer as well. The SP itself is furious about this, RTL Nieuws reports.

The parliamentarians have nothing good to say about the NVWA's actions in dealing with millions of Dutch eggs being contaminated by toxic insecticide fipronil. In summary, the MPs accused the NVWA of not communicating well, not responding adequately to an anonymous tip about the contamination and having an inadequate setup to deal with such a crisis, NU.nl reports.
