On Thursday King Willem-Alexander took a ride on a hybrid quad bike at military test site Fieldlab Smarbase in Soesterberg. The motorized four-wheeler runs on fuel and electricity, AD reports.

The King visited the test site with Minister Ank Bijleveld of Defense. The King and Minister watched demonstrations of innovative products and designs, including the hybrid quad and several robots.

On Thursday the National Military Museum in Soesterberg received the first American to be planted on D-Day in 1944. The flag is on loan from collector Bert Kreuk, who bought it at an auction for 500 thousand dollars.

Artis zoo's microbe museum Micropia was named the most innovative museum in Europe at the European Museum of the Year Award ceremony in the Spanish city of San Sebastian on Saturday. The National Military Museum was also nominated, and while it did not win, it got an honorable mention.

The National Military Museum, designed by Rem Koolhaas, was opened by King William-Alexander on Thursday. The museum was erected in Soesterberg, Utrecht where the former Royal Netherlands Airbase stood since 1913. The museum unifies the collections of the Army Museum in Delft, which closed its doors for the last time two years ago, and the Military Aviation Museum.

The remains of two soldiers from the Second World War have been found in the Overdiepse Polder on the Maas river in Brabant. The Salvave and Identification service from the Army has announced this today. The bodies were dug up on Friday.

A hand grenade from the Second World War was discovered in a dredging ship of the Damen company based in Schiedam yesterday morning. The grenade was pulled out of a harbor during a dredging job.
