A Facebook post stating that the 34 suspects in the trial around a highway blockade during the national Sinterklaas arrival last year were sentenced to prison, was massively shared on Facebook. The post on the page was shared over 25 thousand times in the 23 hours it was online. It has since been removed, NOS reports.

Russian internet trolls tried to influence the public debate in the Netherlands and Belgium using Twitter accounts that, according to Twitter, are linked to 'trolling factory' Internet Research Agency (IRA) in St. Petersburg. People in the Netherlands are not very concerned about fake news and don't come across it very often. The Dutch also have a relatively high trust in their news media, according to the dby Reuters and the University of Oxford. 

According to the researchers, the Netherlands is "characterized by relatively high levels of trust in news and little concern about fake news".

The Segbroek College in The Hague will hold commemoration on Saturday for 15-year-old Clay Haime, who passed away over the weekend. His family says that he died after participating in a social media challenge, AD reports.

On the Segbroek College's website, the school says that Clay died suddenly in a fatal accident, giving no further details. "Friday afternoon Clay went home cheerfully. On Friday night he had a fatal accident. He died of the consequences of this on Saturday", the school said.

Dutch Facebook users provide a remarkably large stream of posts containing hate, racism, an wishes for someone to get a disease like cancer. The number of such posts coming from southern European countries, for example, is much lower, the Volkskrant reports based on its own research.

The newspaper based its report on an anonymous interview with a Dutch man who worked for Facebook as moderator in Berlin last year, leaked emails, internal documents, and a colleague who supported his story. A Dutch team, which varies from five to eight people, works as Facebook moderators in Berlin.

Over 2 thousand young men and boys are sharing revenge porn of hundreds of Dutch girls on a private network. The network contains over 30 thousand photos and videos, which are sorted by the victims' full name and address, and with links to their social media profiles, RTL Nieuws reports based on its own research.

Colloquially, the word “blanke” is an adjective that goes beyond “white” to give a connotation of “purity” or “untainted”.

Last week the police arrested an 18-year-old man from the Rotterdam region who is suspected of posing as a scout for a modeling agency and convincing underage girls to send him nude pictures. He was arrested on suspicion of fraud, inciting sexual abuse, and collecting child pornography. So far four victims and the modeling agency filed declarations against him, the police said in a statement on Tuesday.

On Monday the court in Utrecht sentenced a man from Lelystad to 40 hours of community service, 20 of which conditionally suspended, for posting discriminatory comments on a Facebook post by activist group Kick Out Zwarte Piet, RTL Nieuws reports.

After the national arrival of Sinterklaas in Meppel in 2015, the man wrote under the Kick Out Zwarte Piet post: "Just let them work as slave again then they can't complain anymore it's what they want to work out lazy sweat nigger that's what you are born for", according to the broadcaster.

A Sinterklaas circus in the Rotterdam neighborhood of Spangen is being broken down only a few days after setting up. According to initiator Wouter Zuidema, he no longer feels safe after receiving threats over the telephone and on social media because his circus uses blackface Zwarte Pieten, he said according to local newspaper Dagblad 010.
