State Secretary Paul Blokhuis of Public Health wants to break through the taboo among young people on talking about their sexual orientation. To do so he launched a hashtag and renewed a website where children unsure about their sexual identity can discuss it with other people from the LGBTQ community.
Coalition party D66 and the Dutch association of pediatricians AJN are pleading for the government to conduct a thorough investigation into treatments that claim to "cure" young people from being gay. If these therapies are indeed as harmful as expected, they must be banned, D66 parliamentarian Vera Bergkamp said to EenVandaag.
"Young people must be able to be completely themselves. These therapies are at odds with this", Bergkamp said. She believes that these "treatments" can push young people struggling with their sexual orientation and faith over the edge.
Housing association De Voorzorg in Hoensbroek discriminated against potential tenants between 2013 and 2016, according to forensic investigation by Integis. When talking to potential tenants, the housing association looked at things like race, appearance, health, sexual orientation, religion, ex-partners, hobbies and even body odor, and this played a role in the allocation of housing, NOS reports.
The number of complaints about discrimination against people with disabilities reached a record high last year. The Netherlands Institute for Human Rights received a total of 810 such complaints, compared to 579 in 2016 and 342 in 2015, RTL Nieuws reports.

The first care center catered to homosexuals will open its doors tomorrow in Amsterdam. The center was started by four gay entrepreneurs, and Gay Care Amsterdam will be the first home care organization aimed at gay men, lesbians bisexuals and transgenders. It hopes to be an institution without discrimination, a safe place for LGBTs.
