The government is giving Russian cargo airline AirBridgeCargo (ABC) more takeoff and landing times at Schiphol after Russia threatened to closed its airspace to Dutch planes, NRC reports. 

Slot coordinator at Schiphol, Caroline Ditvoorst, told NRC that she is worried this is setting a bad example, and that other countries will now also try to extort the Netherlands into giving them more room at the airport.

Russia is threatening to close its airspace to Dutch companies after Schiphol reduced the the landing spots for Russian airline AirBridgeCargo (ABC), the Telegraaf reports based on a conversation with Dutch ABC manager Henk-Jan van Keulen. Schiphol reduced the landing spots to reduce the number of flight movements at the airport, according to the newspaper.

Van Keulen told the newspaper that he hopes a solution will be found.

With a flight from London to Amsterdam, Dutch airline KLM said its final goodbyes to the Fokker 70 plane. The last KLM flight with a Fokker 70 landed on Schiphol airport around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday. And on Sunday a Fokker monument was unveiled at Schiphol Oost. 

KLM decided to part with the Fokker planes because their maintenance became too expensive, NOS reports. The planes were discontinued in 1996, making it difficult to find parts. Over the past years, KLM still flew with seven Fokker planes.

State Secretary Sharon Dijksma of Infrastructure and Environment is having the environmental impact assessment (MER) of Schiphol Airport re-examined, she announced in a letter sent to the airport and the Environmental Council, NOS reports. The report was set to be sent to the Environmental Council earlier this week, but that was postponed because the Ministry has questions about the calculations.

KLM and other airlines scrapped a number of flights from Schiphol airport to Ireland and back for Monday. Hurricane Ophelia is expected to hit Ireland during the course of Monday morning.

Dutch airline KLM canceled a total of five flights between Schiphol Dublin and between Schiphol and Belfast.  The airline will reassess the situation during the course of Monday and see if any further changes to the schedule are necessary. At this time all flights to Scotland are still going through as planned.

Schiphol is preparing for a busy time during the upcoming autumn holiday. Around 3 million people will travel through Schiphol in the coming days, 6 percent more than the autumn holiday of last year. The airport is taking additional measures to make traveling through Schiphol as pleasant as possible, ANP reports.

Schiphol and KLM promised consumer and market authority ACM that they will no longer discuss other airlines' growth opportunities at the airport. After four years of investigation, ACM concluded that Schiphol and KLM didn't break any competition rules, but the authority still ordered them to stop this practice, RTL Nieuws reports.

The Netherlands is full of possibilities for a hyperloop test track, but Flevoland is the most suitable location, Minister Melanie Schultz van Haegen wrote to the Tweede Kamer. She asked TNO to investigate the economic and social usefulness and the feasibility of testing the hyperloop in the Netherlands, and eventually building a permanent track, ANP reports.

Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam must immediately start working on improving its infrastructure on the ground, KLM CEO Peter Elbers said to the Telegraaf. "There is still a shortage of parking positions, taxiways and Marechaussee officers. Security passages also need to be broadened", Elbers said. 

"I notice that there is a lot of attention to issues that only surfaced over the past years, such as the new terminal. But let's not forget that much needs to be done in the short term", the KLM CEO said to the newspaper.

Travelers around the world seem to be having trouble checking in for flights on Thursday. Air France, KLM, British Airways, Qantas, Vueling and a number of American airlines are among those reporting problems, AD reports.

The trouble started around 11:30 a.m., Dutch time. Exactly what the problem is, is not yet clear. Though it may stem from a network failure at Amadeus Altea - an aviation service provider that provides the flight booking system for around 125 airlines. Amadeus announced that its systems will be restarted as soon as possible.

Two flights between Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam and Dublin are among the 56 flights Ryanair canceled on Monday. On Saturday the Irish budget airline announced that it is canceling between 40 and 50 flights every day for the next six weeks because it "messed up in the planning of pilot holidays", according to a statement on Facebook. Hundreds of furious travelers took to social media to complain about the airline.

Travelers flying from Schiphol on a KLM flight today, can expect delays. The airline's cabin crew members are performing labor actions on Friday to protest against KLM's decision to reduce the number of flight attendants on some long flights. Cabin crew members taking part in the actions - members of union VNC - will strike for an hour before each flight. The actions take place between 5:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., RTL Nieuws reports.

The first autumn storm to hit the Netherlands this season, is starting to take its toll across the country. Schiphol had to close down a number of runways due to the strong winds. The A13 highway between Delft and Rotterdam was closed for a time after a tree fell on a car. And NS is running fewer trains on a number of routes.

A British Airline plane on its way to London made an emergency landing at Schiphol Airport on Tuesday night. Emergency services responded to the airport en masse because of a report that one or more of the plane's engines failed, local broadcaster NH Nieuws reports. The plane landed safely.

The Airbus A321 was on its way to Heathrow Airport in London. Exactly what caused the problems with the engines is unclear.

Meteorological institute KNMI issued a code orange weather warning for the Netherlands' coastal provinces on Wednesday morning due to very strong winds brought by the season's first autumn storm.

The northern coastal area can see gusts of over 120 kilometers per hour, the KNMI warns. The Provinces of Zuid-Holland, Noord-Holland, Friesland, Groningen and in the Wadden- and IJsselmeer areas can expect winds around 100 kilometers per hour.

The special 'small bags only' security check lines at Schiphol may become something of a permanent fixture. After a successful experiment with these lines over the summer holiday, the airport plans to open them at fixed times and for longer during the autumn holiday, NU.nl reports.

KLM CEO Pieter Elbers wants budget airlines out of Schiphol. The Amsterdam airport is at risk of losing its position as an international flight junction due to all the space given to cheap airlines, he said in an interview with the Volkskrant.

Schiphol's profits for the first half of 2017 were pressured by extra measures the airport had to take to deal with the summer crowds. The airport booked a net profit of 117 million euros, 3 percent less than in the same period last year, Schiphol announced on Friday, ANP reports.

There are significantly more serious incidents on Schiphol airport's runways than at other airports of similar size, AD reports after comparing Schiphol's figures with that of six other airports. All seven airports handle between 400 thousand and 500 thousand flight movements per year.

Dozens of flights from Schiphol airport were canceled on Wednesday morning due to thick fog in the area. The airport expects that all affected passengers will be transferred to other flights during the course of the day, NU.nl reports.

The Dutch Safety Board investigated two "serious incidents" at Schiphol airport in the last quarter. One involved a so-called tail strike, the second a plane being given permission to take off while a bird watch vehicle was still on the runway, NU.nl reports. 

On April 21st, a Boeing 777's tail hit the runway during takeoff - the so-called airstrike. The crew decided to return to Schiphol as a precaution after the plane lost fuel over the North Sea.
