Schiphol Airport is struggling under the weather conditions on Monday. Strong winds are causing flight delays and cancelations, the airport warned on Twitter.

As of 10:15 a.m. Schiphol reported 35  departure cancelations trough 4.45 p.m., and 108 departure delays through 2:00 p.m. A total of 37 arrivals have been canceled until 8:10 p.m. and, 210 have been delayed through 11:35 p.m.

Travelers are advised to check their flight status on the Schiphol site or app, or with their airline before leaving for the airport.

Delta flight DL178 from Portland to Amsterdam had to make an emergency landing in Iceland on Monday due to a medical emergency on board, Delta confirmed to NL Times.

The plane departed from Portland, on the west coast of the United States, to the Netherlands at around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dutch time. Nine hours and 45 minutes later, the Boeing 767-300ER made an emergency landing at Keflavik Airport in Reykjavik, according to Up In The Sky.

Airline Level, a low-cost sister of British Airways, is opening a base at Schiphol in early April. The airline will offer cheap flights to destinations like London, Rome and Vienna. GroenLinks parliamentarian Suzanne Kroger is baffled by this decision, given that all Level destinations are already offered by other airlines flying from Schiphol, AD reports.

Rain combined with strong winds resulted in traffic jams being "a lot longer than usual" during rush hour on Monday morning, according to the ANWB. The weather is also affecting air traffic. KLM canceled 67 flights on Monday. And both the airline and Schiphol warn travelers to take delays into account.

Strong winds  had a major impact on air traffic at Schiphol Airport on Monday. Over a hundred flights were canceled, and hundreds more were delayed.

Strong winds are blowing in the Netherlands on Monday morning, with gusts up to 90 kilometers per hour inland and 100 kilometers per hour along the coast. Meteorological institute KNMI issued a code yellow weather warning for the entire country. The winds are already causing problems in all forms of traffic.

A 72-year-old man from Amstelveen was arrested on suspicion of sexually abusing children in Nepal, the Public Prosecutor announced after the man's arraignment on Tuesday. He was arrested by the Koninklijke Marechaussee last week, when he arrived at Schiphol returning from Nepal.

Ten years ago today a Turkish Airlines plane crashed in a swampy meadow on the edge of Zwanenburg, a village between Haarlem and Amsterdam. Nine people were killed - four passengers in business class, two cabin crew members and three pilots. Miraculously, 126 passengers survived, though many of them badly injured, AD reports.

GroenLinks wants to completely abolish flights between the airports of Amsterdam and Brussels. According to the green party, the train on this route is "effectively almost always faster and always better for the environment". The measure can also relieve some pressure on the already overcrowded Schiphol, AD reports.

Schiphol is again experimenting with facial recognition technology to reduce lines when boarding planes. This experiment involves airline Cathay Pacific. Instead of boarding a plane with your boarding pass and passport, travelers who want to participate in this experiment will have their face, boarding pass and passport scanned after check in. They can then board the plane with just a facial scan, NU.nl reports.

Another two Schiphol employees were arrested in an investigation into large-scale drug trafficking. The two men, aged 33 and 44 from Amsterdam, worked in the baggage, catering and cleaning departments. They were arrested by the Koninklijke Marechaussee on Tuesday, NU.nl reports. 

Twelve other arrests were made in this investigation last year. Nine of those suspects worked at Schiphol. The suspects arrested last year have since been released from custody and will appear in court at a later date. The two arrested on Tuesday are in custody.

Two Russian women were arrested at Schiphol airport on Monday morning, independent Russian newspaper Novaja Gazeta reports. The Koninklijke Marechausee could not confirm the arrests to the Volkskrant.

Schiphol will continue to grow after 2020, despite protests from local residents and environmental organizations, according to Minister Cora van Nieuwenhuizen of Infrastructure and Water Management. The Amsterdam airport has to keep growing in order to keep its competitive position with other airline hubs in Europe, she said in an interview with the Volkskrant.

Dutch airline KLM will investigate whether individual employees were exposed to carcinogenic chromium 6, the company said in response to a demand for clarity from trade union FNV. The involved employees worked at the Regional Jet Center at Schiphol where airplanes of Martinair and Cityhopper, among others, were sanded, ANP reports.

Two planes collided while taxiing at Schiphol airport on Wednesday morning. No one was injured in the incident.

Both planes belong to Dutch airline KLM and at least one was damaged, as can be seen on a photo shared on Twitter. The Dutch airline was unable to comment to newspaper AD about the cause of the accident or the extent of the damage. "The planes are carefully checked and therefore remain on the ground for the time being", a spokesperson said to the newspaper.

Dutch airline KLM improved its punctuality last year, according to a study by aeronautical information agency OAG into the major airlines with the least chance of delays. KLM is the 10th most punctual airline, with 84.52 percent of its flights being on time. In 2017 the Dutch airline only made it to spot 30 on the rankings, AD reports.

Corendon will be transporting a Boeing 747-400 from Schiphol to the Corendon Village Hotel in Badhovedorp from February 5th. During the 5-day-long transport operation, the plane will cross a highway, a provincial road and 17 sea locks, NU.nl reports. 

KLM retired the Boeing in November last year, after 29 years of service, and sold it to Corendon. After its last commercial flight, it was painted in Corendon's colors and had its engines removed. It's final destination is a spot in the garden of the Corendon Village Hotel.

A snow front is slowly moving across the Netherlands, and is expected to hover over much of the southern Netherlands by 5 p.m. on Wednesday. The first snow already fell in the southern provinces, but it had caused few problems throughout the day. Some traffic problems are expected during evening rush hour, according to the ANWB, with about 175 kilometers of traffic jams reported by 4:30 p.m.

Stakeholders united in the Schiphol Environmental Council could not reach a consensus on the future growth of the Amsterdam airport. Chairman Hans Alders will therefore send his own advice to Minister Cora van Nieuwenhuizen of Infrastructure - to allow Schiphol 10 thousand additional flights per year up to and including 2023, and to allow moderate growth till 2028, NOS and NRC report.

The Schiphol Environmental Council consists of almost all parties with an interest in Schiphol, including local residents, governments, the aviation sector and other sector organizations.

The Netherlands is getting snow on Wednesday and that will have consequences for all forms of traffic. NS is running fewer trains. Schiphol expects flight delays and cancelations. And ANWB expects busier than usual rush hours in the morning and evening. Meteorological institute KNMI issued a code yellow warning for the entire country.

Dutch national railway NS will run a reduced schedule on Wednesday morning with forecasted snow expected to fall across much of the country. Up to 3 centimeters of snow is expected across much of the Netherlands.

The limited train schedule is in place so the NS can quickly respond to problems, and provide more accurate travel information, the railway said. Passengers can expect longer travel times and more crowded trains.

A co-pilot scheduled to fly a commercial flight departing Schiphol on Sunday was stopped by police for alcohol consumption. The 51-year-old man was detained at the airport and issued a spot fine of 3,400 euros after breath tests showed an alcohol content three times higher than the legal limit for flight crews.

The Rotterdam The Hague Airport is temporarily closed on Tuesday due to snowfall. The fire department is at the airport to clear snow off the runways, but did not have much success, a spokesperson said to RTV Rijnmond. The airport will assess the situation again after 2:00 p.m. and decide whether it can reopen.

At least one incoming flight was redirected to Schiphol due to the closure, according to the broadcaster. A few departing flights have been delayed
