Family and friends launched a fundraising campaign to pay for the funeral of 17-year-old Orlando Boldewijn from Rotterdam, who was found dead in The Hague on Monday after being missing for over a week. The fundraiser reached its goal - 33 thousand euros - in just one day.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the in December. He is suspected of being involved in the preparation of this fatal shooting. The boy was 15 years old at the time, according to the police.

Divers searching the Böttgerwater in the Ypenburg district of Den Haag found the body of Orlando Boldewijn on Monday, police said. Investigators were working the area in an effort to find after a February 17 meeting with an acquaintance made through dating app Grindr.

Seventeen year old Orlando Boldewijn from Rotterdam has been missing since Sunday, February 18th. He never returned home after going to The Hague for a date he made on dating app Grindr. The police are very concerned that something may have happened to him, and urgently call on anyone with information about his whereabouts to come forward.

The British government is expecting that Unilever will pick Rotterdam for its head office after the United Kingdom leaves the European Union - the so called Brexit, the Financial Times reports based on information from government officials. Unilever refused to comment.

Unilever, a British-Dutch multinational, employs 169 thousand people world wide, including 7,500 in the U.K. and around 3 thousand in the Netherlands. The company currently has a shared headquarters in London and in Rotterdam. The entire head office employs 100 people - 60 in London and 40 in Rotterdam.

Multiple people were injured in a fire in an apartment building in Rotterdam during the early hours of Wednesday morning. A total of 13 people were treated for smoke inhalation, 11 of which were taken to hospital, AD reports.

The building in question is assisted living location Roobrughof. It houses young people with psychological problems. 

The fire started in a meter cupboard on the third floor of the five story building. When fire fighters arrived, a container on the ground floor also turned out to be on fire.

A few hundred Dutch flooded to the Laurentius- and Elisabeth cathedral in Rotterdam on Monday to say goodbye to former Prime Minister Ruud Lubbers, who , NOS reports.

Lubbers' coffin was placed in a sea of flowers and some candles. Hundreds of people walked past the coffin to say farewell, and signed the condolence register.

Those who want to say their final goodbyes to former Prime Minister Ruud Lubbers, can do so at the Catholic Laurentius and Elisabeth Cathedral in Rotterdam on Monday. The doors will be open to the public between 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., government information service Rijksvoorlichtingsdients announced.

A private memorial will be held in the same church on Tuesday, after which Lubbers will be buried.

The mayors of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht and The Hague want the government to hurry up and make a decision on banning firecrackers and firework rockets, Hague mayor Pauline Krikke wrote in a letter on behalf of her colleagues.

The letter is addressed to Minister Ferdinand Grapperhaus of Justice and Security and State Secretary Stientje van Veldhoven of Infrastructure and Water Management, NOS reports.

An 18-year-old from Rotterdam was arrested on suspicion of involvement in the in the Rotterdam neighborhood of Beverwaard late last year. The young man was still 17 at the time of the shooting, the police said in Opsporing Verzocht on Tuesday.

The police are convinced that the teenager did not act alone and are still looking for other suspects.

Eurostar is launching a new direct high speed train route between Amsterdam and London, the company announced on Friday. From April 4th there will be two fast trains a day between the Netherlands and United Kingdom. Tickets start from 40 euros per seat, one way.

The train will also stop at Rotterdam. This new service was preceded by a comprehensive testing of the Netherlands high speed network and the building of Eurostar terminals in Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

The Rotterdam police's cold case team arrested a man and a woman on suspicion of involvement in their 29-year-old daughter's death in 2012. The 63-year-old man and 58-year-old woman from Zwaag were arrested two weeks ago and remanded into custody for 30 days on Tuesday, the Public Prosecutor announced on Thursday.

The average wealth of Dutch households increased by almost 10 percent in 2016, Statistics Netherlands reported on Wednesday based on new figures. This is mainly due to increasing house prices. Dutch without their own home did not see a wealth increase in that year, according to the stats office.

Nearly three in five households owned their home in 2016. An owned home formed the largest part of household's assets at 57 percent, followed by savings. Mortgage was also the largest debt item of Dutch households that year, making up 86 percent of the average household's debt.

The government is investing over 300 million euros into expanding the rail network between Den Haag and Rotterdam, the ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management announced on Monday. By 2025 this route will run eight intercity trains and six sprinters per hour, which means a train every five minutes.

A three-year-old girl was found in a Rotterdam home with her dead mother last month, alderman Sven de Langen said in a letter to the municipal council. While some media reports suggested the girl may have been home alone with her mother's body for a week, the exact timeline is not yet known. The girl is now with a foster family and is doing well under the circumstances, the alderman wrote. He called the incident "tragic".

The police arrested a 27-year-old man from Schiedam in connection with the death of Jip Jurg from Rotterdam. The 32-year-old man got into a fight during the early hours of Saturday morning and was found dead in his home on Sunday. Autopsy revealed that he died of internal injury, the police said in a statement.

Jip's father called emergency services on Sunday after finding his son unconscious. When first responders arrived at the scene, he was already dead. The police launched an investigation to find out what Jip's last hours looked like.

Last year around a thousand illegal cannabis farms were found in three major cities, 22 percent less than the year before. But Stedin is certain that the number of cannabis farms is on the rise, AD reports.

A 24-year-old man was seriously injured in a shooting in the Rotterdam neighborhood of Kralingen on Sunday afternoon. He was rushed to the hospital in "worrying condition", the police said in a statement. Three men were arrested.

The shooting happened at a home on Herman Bavinckstraat just before 4:00 p.m. The suspects were arrested in and around the home. They are three Rotterdam men, aged 45, 26 and 24 years. The police are investigating their role in the shooting.

A woman was found dead in a home on Mathenesserweg in Rotterdam on Monday afternoon. The police believe she was killed in a crime. One man was arrested, the police said in a statement.

The victim still has to be formally identified, but the police believe she is the 39-year-old resident of the first floor home. The police responded to the home around 4:15 p.m. after other people in the home called emergency number 112.
