The police arrested three underage boys on Tuesday morning on suspicion that they gang raped multiple girls in Rotterdam-West and Schiedam-Oost. Investigators believe that even more girls fell victim to these young suspects and call on victims to come forwards.

According to the police, there have been stories in Rotterdam-West and Schiedam-Oost for a long time about a group of boys gang raping girls in parks, basements and other dodgy places. When one declaration finally came in, the police immediately launched an investigation.

The police launched a large-scale investigation into a fire in a building on Hilledijk in Rotterdam on Saturday afternoon. A 27-year-old man from Rotterdam was killed in the fire. Investigators believe that arson was involved, the police said in a statement.

The fire broke out on the first floor of the building at around 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. A resident of the second floor tried to escape the flames by climbing out the window. He fell. The man was critically injured by the fire and his fall. Emergency workers tried to save him, but it was to no avail. He died at the scene.

Misja Harcksen pitched a perfect game this weekend in a baseball match between Rotterdam-based Curacao Neptunus and Glaskoning Twins from Oosterhout. He retired all 27 Twins batters on Sunday afternoon in a nine-inning game with Neptunus besting the Twins 4-0 in a contest that lasted just two hours and three minutes.

"I'm more than flying right now," he told NL Times. "It was the best feeling I've ever had, when I struck out the last guy right at the end."

A 31-year-old woman from Rotterdam was arrested with her 5-month-old baby in Istanbul on Friday. The woman and baby are currently detained in a prison in the Turkish capital. She is suspected of belonging to a terrorist organization, RTL Nieuws reports.

The woman was co-chairman of the Kurdish organization DemNed, the Council of Communities from Kurdistan in the Netherlands, from 2015 to 2016. According to the Turkish authorities, this organization is affiliated with the Kurdish PKK.

A bus hit a lamppost on Stadshoudersweg in Rotterdam on Wednesday after one of the passengers assaulted the bus driver. It is still unclear why the man attacked the woman driving the bus, the police said. She did not sustain serious injuries. None of the passengers were hurt, RTL Nieuws reports.

According to Rotterdam public transit service RET, the man attacked the driver after he asked her question. "She answered his question and got a slap in the face and a punch in the stomach", a spokesperson said to the broadcaster. "She was so shocked that she hit a lamppost."

One participant of the Rotterdam marathon died in hospital, the organizers behind the marathon said on Sunday. At the request of the runner's family, no further details will be given. The organization expressed its deepest sympathies to the runner's family and loved ones, RTV Rijnmond reports.

The first aid and emergency posts were extremely busy during the marathon, according to Arjen Littooij, director of safety office Veligheidsregio Rotterdam-Rijnmond. He believes this had to do with the relatively high temperatures this year.

The housing ratio - the total housing costs as a percentage of disposable income - was higher for tenants in the Netherlands than for homeowners last year. Tenants spent an average of 38.1 percent of their disposable income on housing costs, while homeowners spent an average of 29 percent, Statistics Netherlands reported on Thursday.

On Sunday the Forgotten Bombardment was commemorated in Rotterdam at the monument for the victims in the Bospolder-Tussendijken district. The bombing on 31 March 1943 left 426 people from Rotterdam and Schiedam dead, over 400 injured and some 13 thousand homeless, RTV Rijnmond reports.

Some 600 people participated in a silent march in Rotterdam on Thursday evening for an 8-year-old girl who was stabbed to death in the Maasstad Hospital on March 15th, the Telegraaf reports.

The march started at the Zalmplaatschool in Hoogvliet, the school the girl attended. Many of her classmates and their parents spoke a few words. Participants carried lanterns and white flowers with them.

On Monday customs officers found a "large batch" of cocaine at the office building of a Rotterdam fruit company on Keilestraat, the Public Prosecutor said in a statement.

The drugs were hidden in a banana shipment from Ecuador, according to the Prosecutor. In a number of pallets full of banana boxes, the fruit was replaced by packages of cocaine. The drugs were confiscated and destroyed.

Customs, the Tax Authority's investigative department FIOD, the seaport police and the Public Prosecutor are investigating. As far as is known, no arrests were made.

The municipality of Rotterdam is working on a Rotterdam Prevention Agreement to encourage Rotterdam residents to live healthier lives. A pair of hand grenades were discovered in front of a souvenir and water pipe shop in Rotterdam on Saturday. Ten homes were evacuated while the police explosives unit investigated the munitions found in front of Souvenirtje & Meer on Schiedamseweg.

There were no injuries following the 9 a.m. police response. Trams were diverted from the area, and several streets were shut down, police said. The area was reopened at about 2 p.m. when the grenades were safely transported to the national forensics laboratory NFI. They will be examined for trace evidence, police said.

A man was killed in a shooting on Oranjeboomstraat in Rotterdam Zuid on Wednesday evening. Emergency services responded to the scene at around 10:20 p.m., after reports of screaming and a man with a bullet wound lying on the street, a spokesperson for the police told NU.nl.

Paramedics tried to help the man, but it was to no avail. He succumbed to his injuries around 30 minutes after emergency services arrived. The identity of the victim is not yet known.

Women who go to the abortion clinic in Rotterdam are increasingly being harassed by anti-abortion protesters, according to clinic director Gerrit Zomerdijk. The clinic is therefore asking the municipality of Rotterdam for help, RTV Rijnmond reports.

"They speak to women, stand there with small dolls depicting a fetus, with a poster of an unborn child on their stomach or with a mouth taped shut", Zomerdijk said to the local broadcaster. "Officially, they can only stand on the other side of the street, but they don't stick to that."

One polling station in Alkmaar is closed due to a fire on Wednesday morning. A number of polling stations in Amsterdam opened over an hour late. And residents of a Rotterdam neighborhood didn't get their voting passes.

A 41-year-old man from Hoogvliet was arrested at the Maastad Hospital in Rotterdam on Friday night on suspicion of stabbing his 8-year-old daughter to death, presumably in the hospital, the police said in a statement. The man will be arraigned on Tuesday. 

According to the police, the man came to the hospital with his daughter earlier in the evening for unknown reasons. When they left again, the crisis team of youth protection called the police. Aid workers were very concerned about the welfare of the girl.
