Police and officers from the Koninklijke Marechaussee converged on the DFDS ferry port in Vlaardingen on Tuesday morning to track down on undocumented migrants attempting the journey to the United Kingdom. A team of about thirty people were accompanied by police dogs to check any truck which caused the canines distress.

Sniffer dogs will be used to check each vehicle entering the ferry. If the dog signals that something is off, that vehicle will be thoroughly searched. Authorities were also using equipment to measure levels of carbon dioxide as a way of finding the migrants.

Two people including an innocent bystander were left injured over the weekend in a string of unrelated violent shooting incidents. Guns were fired in Eindhoven, Rotterdam, and Amsterdam in the days following a fatal shooting in Utrecht, and another crime involving a hand grenade took place in Vianen. Several weapons were also seized in a bust in Rotterdam.

Two people were arrested in connection with a shooting in Rotterdam that left a resident from the city injured. The seriousness of the man’s wounds was not revealed by police. The 27-year-old was hospitalized following the crime.

The shooting took place just after 9 p.m. on Friday at the Jagthuisstraat. Police found the victim near the intersection with Beukelsdijk.

Police dispatched to the scene of a home on Troelstrastraat in Rotterdam found over a dozen guns, some cash, and also a small quantity of drugs and drug paraphernalia on Thursday night. A call to emergency services requesting assistance at the house brought authorities to the scene, and two men took off running when the officers were spotted.

One of the two, a 29-year-old from The Hague, was captured and held by authorities. A 26-year-old man from Rotterdam with minor facial lacerations was also taken into custody when he refused to identify himself, police said.

Police in the Netherlands found 14 foreign people hidden inside the cargo hold of a truck on Saturday. The people found were mostly adult men, and at least one boy, from the Palestinian territories, Syria and Yemen.

Ten of the people taken from the truck were found in a different truck at the same location on May 11, police said. They were given a two-year ban on entering Europe when they were sent out of the Netherlands.

The police, Dutch mayors and various large companies issued a joint call on the Dutch government to ban firecrackers and rockets. They want to uphold the tradition of lighting your own fireworks over New Year's, but only with "safe decorative fireworks", they said in a full-page advertisement that will soon appear in national newspapers, RTL Nieuws reports.

An 18-year-old man was killed in an accident on Maasboulevard in Rotterdam on Wednesday. The young man was hanging - voluntarily, according to the police - out of the passenger-side window of a moving car when he hit his head against a pole standing by the road.

The accident happened around 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, according to newspaper AD. The car came to a stop over 200 meters from the pole. Emergency services tried to save the victim at the zebra crossing at Willemsbrug, but it was to no avail. He died at the scene.

Domestic tourism in the large Dutch cities of Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam and Utrecht increased by 54 percent since 2012. This seems to show that Dutch are not very sensitive to the consequences of mass tourism and therefore avoiding the large cities, ABN Amro's economic office reported on Tuesday, NU.nl reports.

On Tuesday Rotterdam commemorated the 79th anniversary of the Rotterdam Blitz, the German bombardment of the city during the Second World War. "We are still for two minutes. Out of respect for the biggest sacrifice that a person can make: his or her life", Rotterdam mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb said about the two minutes of silence. "They did that for our freedom. We walk in their footsteps."

Authorities arrested a man in connection with the New Year's Day murder of rapper Feis, 32, in Rotterdam. The arrest was made in Kerkrade, Limburg on Wednesday afternoon less than a day after police issued a 15 thousand euro reward for information leading to the capture of prime suspect Silfano Junior M.

A massive 24-hour strike by public transportation workers was scheduled by trade union FNV. The labor protest will affect the national railway firm NS, as well as public transit in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Den Haag, the three biggest cities in the Netherlands, FNV revealed on Wednesday.

The strike is set for May 28, and could include regional transportation workers as well, though that will be announced in the future. The labour union also called on workers in other sectors to strike on May 29.

The police offered a 15 thousand euros reward for information that leads to the arrest of Silfano Junior M., the man suspected of shooting and killing Rotterdam rapper Feis on New Year's day. M. has been placed on the national wanted list, the police revealed on Opsporing Verzocht on Tuesday.

An attempt to break a confetti record at the Kingsland festival in Rotterdam on King's Day, will cost the festival thousands of euros. The site where the festival was held in Rotterdam was not cleaned up properly after the attempt. The municipality of Rotterdam is now cleaning the confetti up itself, and will send the bill to Kingsland, RTV Rijnmond reports.

The audience in the Rotterdamse Schouwburg got quite the shock when an acrobat fell around 2 meters during the opening performance of Circusstad Festival on Wednesday. The woman was taken to hospital, the Telegraaf reports.

"Together with six other female acrobats, she was busy with an act on the so-called Chinese Pole. That is a vertical police of five meters high. The acrobats alternate dance with tricks. The woman missed the pole and fell", Circusstad Festival said, according to the newspaper.

The Rotterdam police arrested a 54-year-old man on suspicion of involvement in a fire on Hilledijk, in which 27-year-old Robert Hendrix was killed on April 13th. The Rotterdam man is suspected of arson, the police said on Monday.

In the first quarter of this year, free sector rents nationwide increased an average of 4.9 percent compared to a year ago, while some areas around the Randstad saw increases of more than 18 percent, rental broker Pararius said on Wednesday, NU.nl reports.

The  average selling price of existing owner-occupied homes in the Netherlands amounted to 302,845 euors in March. That is 7.7 percent higher than in March 2018, and the highest level in Dutch history, Statistics Netherlands and the Land Registry reported on Tuesday.

Compared to the low point on the housing market in June 2013, prices for existing owner-occupied homes were 36.1 percent higher in March. Home prices have been climbing consistently ever since the low point on the market. In May 2018, prices for the first time reached above the record level in August 2008.

Burn centers in the Netherlands are concerned about an increasing number of patients coming to them with ice burns after using laughing gas. Over the past three weeks, 14 people were admitted with severe freezing burns on the inside of their thighs. In all patients, the injuries were caused by them clamping an ice-cold laughing gas tank between their legs while filling balloons, NOS reports.

The police arrested three underage boys on Tuesday morning on suspicion that they gang raped multiple girls in Rotterdam-West and Schiedam-Oost. Investigators believe that even more girls fell victim to these young suspects and call on victims to come forwards.

According to the police, there have been stories in Rotterdam-West and Schiedam-Oost for a long time about a group of boys gang raping girls in parks, basements and other dodgy places. When one declaration finally came in, the police immediately launched an investigation.

The police launched a large-scale investigation into a fire in a building on Hilledijk in Rotterdam on Saturday afternoon. A 27-year-old man from Rotterdam was killed in the fire. Investigators believe that arson was involved, the police said in a statement.

The fire broke out on the first floor of the building at around 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. A resident of the second floor tried to escape the flames by climbing out the window. He fell. The man was critically injured by the fire and his fall. Emergency workers tried to save him, but it was to no avail. He died at the scene.

Misja Harcksen pitched a perfect game this weekend in a baseball match between Rotterdam-based Curacao Neptunus and Glaskoning Twins from Oosterhout. He retired all 27 Twins batters on Sunday afternoon in a nine-inning game with Neptunus besting the Twins 4-0 in a contest that lasted just two hours and three minutes.

"I'm more than flying right now," he told NL Times. "It was the best feeling I've ever had, when I struck out the last guy right at the end."

A 31-year-old woman from Rotterdam was arrested with her 5-month-old baby in Istanbul on Friday. The woman and baby are currently detained in a prison in the Turkish capital. She is suspected of belonging to a terrorist organization, RTL Nieuws reports.

The woman was co-chairman of the Kurdish organization DemNed, the Council of Communities from Kurdistan in the Netherlands, from 2015 to 2016. According to the Turkish authorities, this organization is affiliated with the Kurdish PKK.
