So far this year the Netherlands had 51 summer days - days on which temperatures climbed to 25 degrees or higher in De Bilt, according to Weeronline. 2006 also had 51 summer days, but spread over the entire year.

Sunday was the 51st summer day of 2018. Only one more hot day is needed to break the 2006 record. This may happen on Wednesday or Thursday, when maximums of around 25 degrees are expected. Temperatures also often climb to above 25 degrees in late August and September, according to Weeronline. In 2006 the 51st summer day only happened on September 22nd.

Dutch skater Sven Kramer won gold in the 5 thousand meter track skating at the Winter Olympics in Gangneung on Sunday. Not only did he finish in a record time of 6,09.76, but this is also his third consecutive Olympic medal for the 5 thousand meters. With that Kramer goes down in history as the first ever man to win the same Olympic skating event three times in a row, NOS reports.

In 2017 the average sea level was 11cm above the NAP (Normal Amsterdam's Peil). That is 2cm higher that the former record year, 2007. 
Fedor Baart, spokesperson of the research institute Deltares explained the phenomenon to newspaper de Volkskrant.

The sea level expert explained that the record is not surprising at all: "Since 1890 the waters along the coasts are rising about 2mm per year, because of the melting of the polar ices and the glaciers, together with the rise in temperature of the seas."

The main airports in the Netherlands recorded a significant raise in the number of travelers flying to and from the country. Last year, 68.4 million travelers flew from, to or via Schiphol, representing a rise of 7.7% relative to 2016. Meanwhile, the airport's largest airline, KLM, welcomed a record 32.7 million passengers aboard its 2017 flights.

Foreign investments in the Dutch economy topped €3.2 billion last year, a record amount of money according to the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA).

The agency, an operational unit of the ministries of Economic Affairs and Foreign Affairs, released its annual report today that states that in total 187 new investment projects were achieved including headquarters, manufacturing facilities, and data centers. These investments will lead to 6,304 extra jobs.
