Bibian Mentel won the Netherlands first gold medal at the Paralympic Winter Games in Peyonchang on Monday. She took gold in the snowboard cross. Silver also went to the Netherlands with Lisa Bunschoten coming in second place. Chris Vos also won silver in the men's snowboard cross, NU.nl reports.

The Dutch athletes that participated in the are returning to the Netherlands on Monday, bringing 20 medals with them. They will be welcomed back and honored at the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam on Monday evening, RTL Nieuws reports.

The medal celebration for the Dutch men's skating pursuit team went wrong in the Holland Heineken House (HHH) on Thursday night. Sven Kramer, Jan Blokhuijsen, Patrick Roest and Koen Verweij threw a large plate holding into the crowd, injuring two women, RTL Nieuws reports.

Dutch skater, and title defender, Jorrit Bergsma came in second place in the men's 10 thousand meters at the Olympic Games in South Korea on Thursday. Dutch-Canadian Ted-Jan Bloemen won gold, skating for the Canadian team. Third place went to Italian Nicola Tumolero, NOS reports.

Bloemen won with a time of 12:39:77. Bergsma followed with 12:44:99. "I've never before skated this fast, but Bloemen skated a great race", Bergsma said in reaction to his silver medal.

Sjinkie Knegt secured second place in the 1,500-meter short-track speed skating event on Saturday, winning the Netherlands a silver medal. South Korean Hyojun Lim set an Olympic Record of 2:10.485 in his gold medal performance, beating Knegt by seven hundredths of a second.

Carlijn Achtereekte surprised the speed skating world on Saturday finishing with a gold medal in the 3,000 meter event at the Winter Olympics. The favorite, Ireen Wüst silvered in the event just .08 seconds slower than Achtereekte's 3 minutes, 59.21 second pace, while Antoinette de Jong finished in bronze at 4:00.02.

With the Winter Olympics starting on Friday, top Dutch athletes are heading to South Korea to participate. When they get there, their accommodations in Gangneung will be ready and waiting for them.

During the Olympics, from February 9th to 23rd, the Dutch team will share luxury accommodations with athletes from Great Britain in tower 806. Take a peek inside the athletes' digs in the video below.

Amsterdam chef Piet Brink flew to South Korea on Tuesday evening to make bitterballen during the Winter Olympics. He will make a total of around 22 thousand of the deep fried Dutch snacks, to serve at the Holland Heineken House every day of the Games. "I'll work around 10 hours every day", he said to Het Parool.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima are dropping in for tea with Chinese president Xi Jinping in Beijing on Wednesday on their way to the opening of the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. Prime Minister Mark Rutte will lead an official visit to China in April, sources told the Telegraaf on Wednesday.

The Dutch King will spend only one day in China before traveling to South Korea for the Olympic Winter Games, NOS reports. Queen Maxima still has some appointments in China on Thursday.

​Camile Eurlings is stepping down as Dutch Member of the International Olympics Committee. The former cabinet minister and ex-CEO of KLM is leaving the IOC because of allegations that he assaulted his ex-girlfriend in 2015.

He made his decision public with an announcement on Friday afternoon, according multiple publications.

A casting call for Dutch radio station Radio 538's upcoming Winter Olympics coverage has caused anger among many members of the Dutch-Asian community. The job posting is seen by some as specifically promoting an antiquated caricature as it identifies the need for a Korean man who "is instantly recognizable as Korean", and able to speak "defective" Dutch and English. Whoever is hired for the role will be the face of Radio 538's broadcasts on the Olympics, taking place next February in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
