The Public Prosecutor (OM) in the Netherlands plans to move forward with a case against RTL Boulevard presenter Alberto Stegeman, who is accused of sneaking past security on a military site and leaving a fake bomb in its mess hall. Stegeman defended the action, for his show Undercover in Nederland, saying that the entire act was critical to demonstrating lax security at the Oldebroek barracks in the province of Gelderland.

Like in previous years, the number of crimes registered in the Netherlands decreased last year. In 2018, 6 percent fewer crimes were registered than in 2017, the Public Prosecutor said in its annual report on Thursday. The Dutch authorities also seized over 171 million euros in criminal assets. But while the total number of registered crimes decreased, the declining trend seemed to start reversing in the second half of the year, the Prosecutor said.

A 34-year-old man from Vlissingen is suspected of brutally raping at least seven women after taking them on dates. The rapes happened over the past two years. The man made contact with his victims through dating sites and raped them after taking them on a few dates, the Public Prosecutor said during the first pro-forma hearing on this case in the court in Middelburg on Tuesday, the Telegraaf reports.

The Public Prosecutor believes it caught a "big fish" in the distributors of child pornography on the dark web with the arrest of a 26-year-old man from Gorinchem. The court in Rotterdam remanded the man into custody for three months on Tuesday, NU.nl reports.

The man was arrested on January 18th. He has been in restricted custody since then, also denied internet access out of concern that he will warn his 'friends'. Child pornography was found on the man's computer, including material of very young children, the Public Prosecutor said.

New software will give the police access to Netherlands forensic institute NFI's database. The so-called 'DNA success meter' will help forensic investigators to immediately see which trace evidence they can send in for quick results, various employees of the organizations involved told De Telegraaf.

The DNA success meter was developed by the NFI, the police, the Public Prosecutor, and Hogeschool van Amsterdam. The goal is to ensure that the correct trace evidence is investigated and collected at a crime scene, so that the available capacity is optimally used.

Senior prosecutors Marc van Nimwegen and Marianne Bloos seriously violated the integrity rules of the Public Prosecution Service with their secret relationship and thereby damaged the entire organization, the Fokkens committee concluded after investigating the relationship. Last week customs officers found crystal meth and ketamine at a transport company in De Lier. The drugs were hidden in a shipment of frozen chicken drumsticks, which were on their way to England, the Public Prosecutor said in a statement.

The discovery was made on April 17th. A 32-year-old man from Amsterdam was arrested on suspicion of involvement in drug trafficking and money laundering. He was arraigned earlier this week and remanded into custody for another two weeks.

The Public Prosecution Service made a huge blunder. A photo of the most important key witness in the case against Ridouan Taghi, the most wanted criminal in the Netherlands, ended up in the criminal files of all suspects around Taghi, the Prosecutor confirmed to RTL Nieuws after reports in the Telegraaf. 

The police photo of Nabil B. ended up in the files of suspects who are on trail on Thursday for involvement in multiple underworld assassinations. The main suspect in the case is fugitive Ridouan Taghi.

The number of reports of discrimination filed in the Netherlands dropped from 11,479 in 2017 to 10,087 last year, the Public Prosecutor announced in its annual report on discrimination cases on Tuesday. As in previous years, most reports involved discrimination based on origin, NU.nl reports.

The Public Prosecutor's report includes figures from anti-discrimination facilities ADVs, the police, the online discrimination reporting center MiND and the Netherlands Institute for Human Rights. Only the Human Rights Institute saw an increase in reports last year, from 416 to 510.

He will be prosecuted for "breach of honor, insult and simple assault", the Public Prosecutor said in a statement on Friday. The Ministry of Defense announced that Kroon is suspended in anticipation of his trial.

A man who was found dead in the Utrecht village of Wilnis on Wednesday, was acquitted in February of stalking a woman who was shot and killed in Mijdrecht on Tuesday night. The woman pressed charges against the 54-year-old man in September last year, accusing him of insulting and stalking her between May and September 2018, NOS reports.
