The French authorities are implementing stricter measures on drug use in skiing areas, focusing especially on Dutch and Spanish tourists. Most of the narcotics seized on the French ski slopes come from Netherlands and Spain, according to France's customs, NOS reports.

In the ski year 2015-2016, nearly 500 kilograms of weed, cocaine, and ecstasy, among others, were confiscated in the French Alps. Skiing is increasingly becoming a party holiday for many young people, according to the broadcaster. French media already refers to people using cocaine on the slopes as 'snow sniffers'.

Earlier this month the police responded to the prison in Alphen aan den Rijn en masse after a man threatened to shoot the prison staff with an automatic rifle, the Telegraaf reports based on a letter from prison management.

The incident happened on January 17th. Employees are seriously alarmed, the letter states. "As soon as this serious threat became known to the penitentiary institution, it was taken very seriously. The police came into action immediately. An investigation is ongoing", the Judicial Institutions Department explained to the newspaper.

The 54-year-old Dutch man was convicted of manslaughter. His ex-partner, 44-year-old Adriana K. from Arnhem, was acquitted, De Gelderlander reports.

Former psychiatric prison patient John van T. managed to slip away during his trial in Den Bosch on Monday morning. The 48-year-old man escaped from the courtroom just before the Public Prosecutor demanded that he again be sentenced to institutionalized psychiatric care. He is suspected of holding a couple hostage in a home in Budel on April 5th last year, and trying to extort them, NOS reports.

A 52-year-old Dutch horse dealer was sentenced to 17 years in prison by the Crown Court in Canterbury for smuggling 50 kilograms of cocaine into Dover in the United Kingdom. He smuggled the drugs to raise money for the career of his daughter, a successful show jumper, the Telegraaf reports.

The British court found Mario van G. guilty of smuggling 50 kilograms of cocaine, with a street value of almost 4 million pounds [around 4.5 million euros] into the country at the port of Dover.

A 31-year-old Dutch man was sentenced to five years in prison by a British court for his role in a "intensive criminal campaign in Europe" against British animal testing laboratory Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS). He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to blackmail. His 30-year-old wife was given a 2 year suspended prison sentence, the BBC reports.

A 32-year-old woman from Norway was sentenced to six months in prison, three of which conditionally suspended, for attacking KLM cabin crew members after they refused to serve her alcohol on a flight to Panama two weeks ago. The sentence is equal to what the Public Prosecutor demanded. The woman also has to pay 5 thousand euros damage compensation, the Telegraaf reports.

The court in The Hague on appeal again convicted former VVD politician Jos van Rey of corruption, ballot fraud, leaking confidential information, and money laundering on Wednesday. He was given a suspended prison sentence of one year, and is not allowed to work in an administrative office of the government for two years, RTL Nieuws reports.

The Public Prosecutor demanded two years in prison and a ban on working in politics for three years against the 72-year-old man.

The Public Prosecutor demanded 18 years in prison against former tennis coach Mark de J. for the murder of businessman Koen Everink in his Bilthoven home in March last year. According to De J.'s lawyer, Bob Kaarls, the Prosecutor was selectively blind when investigating Everink's murder. A 39-year-old Amsterdam man accused of kidnapping a 16-year-old girl and forcing her to marry him convicted on Thursday. He was sentenced to two years in prison, according to news wire ANP.

The man was acquitted of terrorism related charges, and planning a trip to war-torn Syria.

The teenaged girl is from the small Noord-Brabant village of Heesch. She was missing for several weeks spanning July and August in 2016.

Two 23-year-old men were sentenced to six years in prison for selling hard drugs on the ark web. Thijs V. from Houten and Mike W. from Muiden were found guilty of selling at least 400 thousand euros of drugs, mostly MDMA, over a period of eight months, RTL Nieuws reports.

The two men hid the drugs in peanut butter bottles and greeting cards and then sent them by post to customers around the world. "They made every effort to carry out their trade in a refined manner", the court in Midden-Nederland said, according to the broadcaster.

O. performed physical examinations, including internal vaginal and anal examinations, on his victims. They thought that he was qualified to do so, and only afterwards discovered that he was not really a doctor.
