Riduouan Taghi, considered the most wanted fugitive criminal in the Netherlands, is likely staying on Kish - an island in the Persian Gulf, an about two-hour boat ride from Dubai, the Telegraaf reports based on "multiple sources" within and outside the investigative services. The Netherlands has no extradition treaty with Kish.

In July the Telegraaf wrote that Taghi was "almost certainly" hiding in Dubai.

A man and a woman were killed in an accident on the A50 highway near Heteren early on Tuesday morning. A truck headed towards Eindhoven crashed into the car where the victims sat at about 1 a.m. 

The third person in the car was rushed to an area hospital. Police said he was critically injured in the crash.

Authorities said it in a statement released later in the day that it was unclear if the victims' car was was stopped or moving very slowly. "It is still unknown how this could happen," police said.

A gold bar that fell out of a transport van in Utrecht earlier this month has been returned to its rightful owner, thanks to an honest finder who made contact with the police.

The gold bar, worth between 200 thousand and 235 thousand euros, was inside a transport box that fell out of a transport van on November 15th, according to RTL Nieuws. The driver had picked up the bar at the Royal Mint. On the onramp to the A2 highway, the driver discovered that the van's side door was not closed properly and that the transport box was missing.

An ATM was blown open on Dorpsstraat in Noord-Scharwoude early on Monday morning. This is the fifth such explosion in Noord-Holland in a week. Last week four ATMs were blown open in Alkmaar, Amsterdam and Zaandam, and one ATM bombing was prevented, NH Nieuws reports.

The bombing in Noord-Scharwoude happened at around 3:30 a.m., the police said on Twitter. Two people were seen fleeing the scene on a scooter. Whether they actually managed to steal any money from the ATM, is not yet clear.

A 49-year-old man was arrested in Amsterdam on Friday. He is suspected of involvement in the death of 34-year-old Seif Ahmed from Amsterdam on October 1st, the police said in a statement.

Ahmed was found dying of a gunshot wound in his car on Buitensingel in Amsterdam-Duivendrecht. His 14-month-old daughter was in the backseat of the car.

A 37-year-old man was arrested in Montenegro in connection with the murder of a 33-year-old man in Breda on June 20, 2008. The victim was stabbed on Edisonstraat when leaving a bar after watching a football match.

The Breda man was stabbed in his wrist, neck and back. He collapsed and succumbed to his injuries a day after the stabbing. 

Police investigation quickly identified a then 26-year-old man as a suspect. Investigation showed that he had fled the Netherlands, so the man was put on international wanted lists.

A Tax Authority building on Kloosterweg in Heerlen was evacuated on Friday morning after the discovery of a package containing a powder substance, the Limburg police said on Twitter.

The police are currently investigating what substance the package contained. The building was evacuated as a precaution.

A dispatcher sent firefighter equipment, and requested police assistance at the scene just before 9:30 a.m. The situation was escalated to a GRIP 1 at 10:10 a.m. That means that a commanding officer from one of the emergency services takes command of the entire scene.

Early this month the Dutch and Australian police dismantled a large drug network responsible for trafficking MDMA from the Netherlands to Australia. A total of 850 kilograms of MDMA powder and 550 liters of MDMA oil were seized - enough to make more than 15 million ecstasy pills, according to the Australian Federal Police. The Dutch police arrested eight suspects. One suspect was arrested in Australia.

A DNA sample given by a son helped the police finally identify a man whose body washed ashore on Terschelling in 1953. The man was identified Andries Penning, captain of seafaring ship Westland, the police said in a statement on Monday.

The Westland sunk with seven people onboard on the night of the 1953 North Sea flood, en route from Germany to England. Penning's body washed ashore on Terschelling three months later. He was buried in grave O-2 on Terschelling as an unidentified person.
