Hundreds of environmental activists are demonstrating for more measures against climate change in Amsterdam on Monday morning. Action group Extinction Rebellion is blocking access to the Stadhouderskade at the Rijksmuseum, NOS reports.
A 43-year-old man from Amsterdam who was arrested for recording videos with a drone at his hotel in Cairo, has been released, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed. Pieter Bas Habes has been ordered to leave Egypt as quickly as possible, and the Dutch embassy will help him in this. He is doing well, though he needs some time to rest, the Ministry said, NOS reports.
"It is going well and we are very happy", Habes' lawyer said to NOS. The Amsterdam man is expected back in the Netherlands soon. Then more information about his release will be available, the lawyer said.
A person was found dead in the city hall of Deventer on Friday morning. The police are currently investigating whether the person died in a crime or from natural causes.
The police were called to the scene at 8:08 a.m.
So far nothing is known about the identity of the victim. Whether they worked at the city hall, is not clear. Deventer's city hall is open to the public, so the victim may have been a visitor..

Two men were abducted by armed from from a home in Roosendal on Monday night, the police said on Wednesday. They were pushed into a stolen car, threatened and beaten. Four hours later the two wounded men were released in a forest in the Rotterdam district of Hoogvliet.
Drug crime has become so big in the Netherlands partly because of inconsistent policy regarding the police, National Police Chief Erik Akerboom said in an interview with the Volkskrant.
"The up and down policy of successive cabinets means we cannot build a good position in the neighborhood. The police released new video footage of a police officer being assaulted by members of a wedding procession in Rotterdam at the end of August. The video, shown on Opsporing Verzocht on Tuesday, shows a man attacking the officer from behind, knocking him out. The perpetrator of the assault managed to get away and is still at large.
The Limburg police discovered a massive drug lab in Kerkrade on Monday evening. This is the second largest drug lab ever found in the Netherlands, a spokesperson for the Limburg police said to NU.nl.
The spokesperson called it an "illegal chemical plant" and said that local residents escaped a "disaster", due to a big risk of the lab exploding. The National Dismantling Support Facility is currently helping the police with mapping the laboratory. After that the complex will be dismantled.

From today the police will use so-called smart traffic cameras to catch drivers using their phones and other electronic devices while driving. The intention is to reduce distractions behind the wheel and thereby increase road safety, the police said in a statement.
Hundreds of farmers are gathering in The Hague to protest on Tuesday. So far two farmers were arrested. One for driving his tractor through barricades set up by the police. Three men were arrested in connection with a shooting at a coffee bar on Nieuwe Binnenweg in Rotterdam on Sunday night, including the man who was injured in the shooting. Investigators are looking for witnesses and anyone who may have camera footage or photos of the incident.
A hand grenade was found outside of nightclub The Box on Mekongweg in Amsterdam-West early on Saturday morning. The area around the club was closed down for some time while the Ministry of Defense's explosive removal department disarmed and disposed of the device.
The grenade was found at around 4:30 a.m. The club was empty at the time, the police said in a statement.
A total of 90 football supporters from Groningen were arrested in Amsterdam before the match between Ajax and FC Groningen on Saturday. According to the police, the Groningen supporters came to Amsterdam to start a fight with Ajax supporters. They were each fined 120 euros and released after the match, a spokesperson for the Public Prosecution Service in Amsterdam said to AD on Sunday.
The police believe that a white delivery van was used as a getaway car after the murder of lawyer Derk Wiersum outside his home on Imstenrade in Amsterdam. Witness statements and video footage showed a white vehicle "similar to a Fiat Doblo" driving away from the area immediately after Wiersum was gunned down on Sepember 18th, the police said on Sunday.
An explosive was left in an ATM on Van Limburg Stirumstraat in Amsterdam after a failed ATM bombing during the early hours of Monday morning. The Ministry of Defense's explosive removal department is at the scene. The police asked residents of surrounding homes to stay inside.

A 26-year-old man from Rotterdam was seriously hurt in a shooting at a cafe in the center of the city on Sunday night. The victim was rushed to hospital, the police said. Around 10 shots were fired with an automatic firearm, bystanders told broadcaster NOS.

The police in Suriname are looking for two Dutch men of Surinamese descent who disappeared in the country ten days ago. The missing men are Bisnoepersad 'Roy' Hari and Romeo Donk. Thousands of kids, young people and adults flooded to Koekamp in The Hague on Friday afternoon to protest for a more effective climate policy. By around 1:00 p.m., when the protest was set to start, The Hague Central Station was completely packed with people. "Stay calm and follow the directions of NS personnel", the police advised on Twitter.

Many also connected to the case around alleged drug gang leader Ridouan Taghi. This extra security is necessary, but comes at the expense of Amsterdam's police capacity, mayor Femke Halsema and Jan Pronker of the Amsterdam police said in a city council debate on Thursday.
