The Amsterdam police arrested suspects at various locations on Monday morning in the ongoing investigation into an attack on the building housing newspaper De Telegraaf in June last year. More details will be released during the course of the day, the police said on Twitter.
All types of scooters, even the slower ones with blue license plates, are banned from most Amsterdam bike paths from today. But the ban, as well as the obligation to wear a helmet, will not be immediately enforced. The 500 enforcement officers in the Dutch capital are threatening to strike if the municipality does not meet their demand for better equipment, the Volkskrant reports.
A 43-year-old man from Veere was arrested on Wednesday evening for assault. The suspect was a linesman at a girls' under 15 football match in Koudekerke and headbutted a supporter after he made a comment on one of the referee's decisions, the police said in a statement.
The police were called right after the assault happened. The referee stopped the match. Responding officers spoke to the victim and a number of witnesses.
"Based on these statements, the 43-year-old suspect was arrested at his home", the police said. The arrest happened at around 8:45 p.m.
A man who was found dead in the Utrecht village of Wilnis on Wednesday, was acquitted in February of stalking a woman who was shot and killed in Mijdrecht on Tuesday night. The woman pressed charges against the 54-year-old man in September last year, accusing him of insulting and stalking her between May and September 2018, NOS reports.
A 46-year-old woman and her 7-year-old son were killed in a traffic accident on the N57 near Ouddorp on Thursday afternoon. The car they were in hit a truck head-on. There was also a dog in the car, which did not survive the accident, NU.nl reports.
The accident happened at around 5:15 p.m. The two people in the truck were severely shaken, but unharmed, the police said.
The N57 was closed in both directions for hours due to the police investigation and salvage work. The road opened again at around 9:50 p.m.
The cause of the accident is not yet clear.
A minor suspect was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting in Almelo on Wednesday afternoon. During the arrest, he managed to grab one of the police officers' firearm. The police quickly managed to take the gun back from the boy, NU.nl reports.
The boy had been worked to the ground by supermarket staff. He then tried to hurt himself by banging his head on the ground, the police said. When officers tried to help the boy to his feet, he violently resisted and a struggle ensued. It was during this struggle that he grabbed the cop's gun.
The police arrested two men in De Bilt and Zeist on Monday morning. They are suspected of human trafficking at two addresses in Utrecht. The two involved houses were placed on lockdown by the municipality last year, the police said in a statement.
According to the police, the 63-year-old man from De Bilt and 59-year-old man from Zeist rented two properties in Utrecht where the operated illegal sex establishments and facilitated prostitution. The municipality of Utrecht closed down the two properties when these suspicions were confirmed in November last year.
A woman died in a shooting incident in a home on Landsherenstraat in Mijdrecht on Tuesday night. The police are looking for one suspect, the Utrecht police said on Twitter. A helicopter was deployed to aid in the search.
The police responded to the home at around 11:00 p.m. after receiving a report of a shooting, according to newspaper AD. Responding officers found the critically injured woman inside. Paramedics tried to resuscitate her, but it was to no avail. She died at the scene.
The motive for the shooting is not yet clear. The police are investigating.
Over a hundred solar panels were stolen from football club SV de Vecht in the Utrecht town of Loenen aan de Vecht. The solar panels were taken from the club building on Rijksstraatweg last week. The club reported the theft to the police, RTV Utrecht reports.
The board of Haarlem football club Geel-Wit expelled a linesman who knocked a goalkeeper from another football club unconscious on Saturday, the club announced on its website. On Monday customs officers found a "large batch" of cocaine at the office building of a Rotterdam fruit company on Keilestraat, the Public Prosecutor said in a statement.
The drugs were hidden in a banana shipment from Ecuador, according to the Prosecutor. In a number of pallets full of banana boxes, the fruit was replaced by packages of cocaine. The drugs were confiscated and destroyed.

Multiple people opened fire on a group of people from a car in Weert on Thursday afternoon. The gunmen fled the scene in the car. No one was hurt, the Telegraaf reports.
