Police detained two persons of interest connected to the murder of criminal defense attorney Derk Wiersum. The arrests were announced on television show Opsporing Verzocht on Tuesday night.

A DNA sample given by a son helped the police finally identify a man whose body washed ashore on Terschelling in 1953. The man was identified Andries Penning, captain of seafaring ship Westland, the police said in a statement on Monday.
The Westland sunk with seven people onboard on the night of the 1953 North Sea flood, en route from Germany to England. Penning's body washed ashore on Terschelling three months later. He was buried in grave O-2 on Terschelling as an unidentified person.
All 11 members of radical nationalist group Pegida arrested during the national Sinterklaas arrival party in Apeldoorn on Saturday, have been released from custody, the police announced on Sunday. The Dutch government is allocating 30 million euros for the purchase of electric shock weapons for the police. Equipping cops with tasers has been high on the police's wish list for some time, and they are now getting their way, RTL Nieuws reports.

A man found dying of a gunshot wound in a car on Buitensingel in Amsterdam-Duivendrecht on October 1st, had a toddler in the car with him, the police announced on Thursday. The toddler was the victim's child and was unharmed in the shooting that killed the father, 34-year-old Seif Ahmed.
Ahmed was found motionless in the car at around 5:15 p.m. on October 1st. First responders discovered he had a gunshot wound. They tried to resuscitate him, but it was to no avail. He died at the scene.

Three 17-year-old boys were arrested on suspicion of assaulting and robbing a 47-year-old man in Bilthoven on August 19th. The victim went to the scene because of a date he made through dating app Grindr.
The man, from Soest, met his date at a parking lot in Bilthoven as agreed through the app. The two walked into the forest on Dwarspad, where five other young men were waiting for them. .
Student associations in Leiden are warning their members to not go out alone at night after multiple students reported being sexually harassed or assaulted in the city center. The police received multiple reports of incidents, a police spokesperson confirmed to AD.
