The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority issued a health warning over Tony's Chocolonely chocolate bars with hazelnut. According to the Authority, the chocolate bars may contain traces of peanuts, even if it is not stated on the packaging, which can be dangerous to people with peanut allergies.

The Consumers Association has filed a report with the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority regarding food manufactures' "misleading claims" about nutrition values. According to the Association, manufacturers lead consumers to believe that unhealthy products are better or healthier than similar products by claiming that they are "rich in fiber", "low fat" or "high in vitamin C".

Business owners in the hospitality industry received 1,578 fines from the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) last year for failing to comply with the national smoking ban. The number of fines increased by 191 from the previous year, and written warnings jumped from 379 in 2013 to 619 last year, NU reports.

State Secretary Martin van Rijn (Health) is intensifying the rules for the use of e-cigarettes to prevent young people having easy access to it. New rules will include an age restriction of 18 years for purchasing an e-cigarette, including e-cigarettes that do not contain nicotine. There will also be stricter requirements for the ingredients in e-cigarette liquid.

An Amsterdammer would not startle when finding a cat roaming around their legs in a cafe. For many years, cats have been an integral part of the local colour, ridding premisses of pesky vermin and providing comfort to the regulars. However well known Nieuwmarkt spot Cafe ‘t Loosje has received word from the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) that their beloved cat Smokey can no longer remain on the premises. Outraged by the order, employee Marie Boudri started an online petition which is receiving considerable community support.
