The province of Noord-Holland started a close collaboration with Hardt Hyperloop to realize a hyperloop system between the airports in Amsterdam and Frankfurt. This vacuum tube, high speed transport system will be able to take passengers between those two cities in half an hour. "Then flights are no longer needed", a spokesperson for the province said to the Telegraaf.

Last week, U.S. Ambassador to the Netherlands, Pete Hoekstra, was named an honorary cheese Weighmaster by Gouda Mayor Mirjam Salet at the annual opening of the city's historic cheese market. "I’ll continue to promote the cheese to our American friends," he reportedly said.

A flight attendant was stopped by police at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam on Tuesday under suspicion of consuming too much alcohol. The 26-year-old purser was already on board a foreign airline’s plane when he was confronted by authorities, police said.

Police subjected the suspect to a breath analysis, which came back with a reading of 260 micrograms per liter of breath. Authorities converted this to the stricter blood alcohol concentration of .06, which is three times the legal limit for aircraft personnel.

The United Kingdom leaving the European Union with no agreements in place would be a hard blow for the Netherlands, according to German think tank Bertelsmann Stiftung. A no-deal Brexit will cost the Netherlands 3.16 billion euros per year, the think tank calculated. That amounts to 186 euros per Dutch person per year, NU.nl reports.

The Brexit happening with agreements in place will be more favorable for the Netherlands. Then the damage will be limited to 1.75 billion euros per year, or 103 euros per Dutch person per year, according to the think tank.

The court in Noord-Holland awarded sole custody of abducted Amsterdam girl Insiya Hemani to her mother Nadia Rashid. The court revoked father Shehzad Hemani's custody in a civil lawsuit filed by the Child Care and Protection Board last month, according to the recently published ruling, NOS reports.

The R. Kelly concert scheduled in Amsterdam next month has been cancelled, the venue The Box announced in a statement on Monday. Kelly was arrested in Chicago on February 22, where he faces ten counts of aggravated sexual abuse involving four victims, three of whom were underage at the time.

The police are allowed to force a suspect to unlock their smartphone with a fingerprint scan. This method is not in conflict with the principle that a suspect does not have to cooperate with their own conviction, the Noord-Holland court ruled on Thursday in a case against three men suspected of phishing activities. All three suspects were convicted, NU.nl reports.

The Amsterdam venue booked for an R. Kelly concert in April now says it wants the event scrapped following the musician's arrest in Chicago on Friday. A judge in Cook County, Illinois set Kelly's bond at $1 million the next day after a prosecutor laid out details of 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse against four female victims, three of whom were between 13 and 17 years of age.

Four people were found dead in the water on Berkmeerdijk in Obdam on Sunday. They were identified as four workers for Borst Bloembollen in the town, who were missing since Friday. The police believe they crashed their car into the dike in a tragic accident, NU.nl reports.

The victims are three men aged 20, 21 and 21, and a 47-year-old woman, all from Poland. "Everything points to a tragic accident", a police spokesperson said to NU.nl.

Dutch national railway NS will run a reduced schedule on Wednesday morning with forecasted snow expected to fall across much of the country. Up to 3 centimeters of snow is expected across much of the Netherlands.

The limited train schedule is in place so the NS can quickly respond to problems, and provide more accurate travel information, the railway said. Passengers can expect longer travel times and more crowded trains.

A 15-year-old girl and a 72-year-old man were both injured in separate incidents involving a passing car in the Noord-Holland village of Barsingerhorn over the weekend.

The teenage girl was cycling on Heerenweg at around 7:10 p.m. on Saturday when a small passenger car approached her from the opposite direction. As the car drove past her, she was stabbed in the arm with a sharp object, according to the police. The car drove off.

There were over 1,635 kilometers of traffic jams across the Netherlands at 5:05 p.m. on Tuesday, just as the evening rush hour got underway, according to travel association ANWB. A snow storm that started on the west coast in the morning was slowly making its way east, and was still expected to hover over the provinces of Friesland, Groningen, Drenthe, Overijssel, Gelderland, Limburg, and parts of Flevoland and Noord-Brabant past 6 p.m.

A fatal traffic accident that left a 64-year-old man and his 33-year-old daughter dead was caused by an Uber driver, the ride-sharing platform reportedly confirmed to website TaxiPro. The crash happened on January 3 just after the victims dropped family off at Schiphol Airport.

Uber drivers are said to be involved in crashes that killed four people in Amsterdam over the past six weeks. The Uber driver in the January 3 crash is still in custody having allegedly used cannabis.

Police have released six of the seven suspects taken into custody after the shooting death of rapper Faisal Mssyeh. Better known as Feis Ecktuh, or just "Feis", the 32-year-old was gunned down in Rotterdam early in the morning on New Year's Day.

His 31-year-old brother received a life-threatening injury during the shooting. Both victims were taken to an area hospital shortly after the incident.

Police arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with a Nov. 12 shooting in Amsterdam that wounded a 45-year-old man. A second person is still at large, but a description of that person was not released.

Illegal fireworks found in Vijfhuizen warehouse

Authorities in the Netherlands managed to confiscate 56,525 kilograms of illegal fireworks over the course of 2018, the Public Prosecutor revealed. The total far surpasses the amount seized in 2017 of 40,382.60 kilograms.

It represents a 40 percent increase. Several confiscations in the last week of the year pushed that number up by nearly 5,900 kilos.

The last week of the year represented the third-highest seizure of fireworks by Dutch authorities. Some 12,712 kilos were seized from November 12-18, and a little over 7,920 kg were taken between December 3-9.

New Year's Eve was particularly busy in Amsterdam, the municipality revealed on Tuesday. Police responded to more incidents than last year, gun use was on the rise, fire fighters were sent out on more calls, and five people were injured in fireworks accidents.

There were seven assaults on Amsterdam police officers at the turn of the new year, and one bus driver was assaulted. This is a slight increase on a year earlier, when there were five such cases.
