The participants of a fatal skiing holiday in the French Alps, organized by Christian student association Navigators, arrived back in Nijmegen on Thursday morning. At least two members of the group were killed in an avalanche on Tuesday, a third is still missing, the Telegraaf reports.

Rescue workers are resuming their search on Thursday morning for a third Dutch student that went missing with two other Dutch in an avalanche on Tuesday afternoon. The other two were found dead, AD reports.

The avalanche happened around 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The French police received a report of three missing snowboarders around 7:00 p.m. Due to the bad weather, the first search and rescue helicopter only started searching at around 9:00 p.m.

Emissions from scooters and mopeds are so high that they are harmful to cyclists' health, according to a study done by municipal health institute GGD Gelderland-Midden. The health institute calls for scooters and mopeds to be removed from the bike path and onto the road in order to immediatley improve the air quality for cyclists, RTL Nieuws reports.

The brains of people with ADHD are smaller in five regions than the brains of people without ADHD, according to a new international neuro-imaging study led by Dutch researcher Barbara Franke of the Radboud University Medical Center in Nijmegen. This is the largest such study for ADHD to date, Radboud UMC announced on its website.

Radboud University in Nijmegen was the site of a shortly lived, but quite intense fire on Tuesday afternoon. According to the university, a cooling tower on the roof of the Spinoza building on Montessorilaan caught fire during maintenance work. The fire caused a lot of smoke and the building had to be evacuated, but no one was injured.

The fire was under control by 12:55 p.m. and by 1:15 p.m. eight of the nine floors in the building was released. Students, lecturers and staff were allowed back inside. The entire building was released by 14:35 p.m., the university said on Twitter.

More than half of the 400 chemical- and other companies with a large risk factor in the Netherlands violated safety rules over the past two decades, the Volkskrant reports based on a survey of inspection reports. Over a fifth of the cases involved a medium to serious violation, according to the newspaper.

A flakka dealer was arrested in Nijmegen on Tuesday, the first to be arrested in the Netherlands. Flakka is a new hard drug that recently started circulating in the Netherlands. It is also known as the zombie-drug and according to the police, can make you do "very strange things", Omroep Gelderland reports.

The arrest was made based on a tip from Alberto Stegeman of the program Undercover in Nederland. He told the police that a drug deal was set to happen in Nijmegen. The police acted on this information and arrested the suspected dealer.

A Christmas party for the Nijmegen police last month ended with police officers passed out and "urinating in sinks", according to an internal email in which a police team leader calls his colleagues to order, which the Gelderlander managed to get hold of. 

"We issued a card that does not fit with our position iin the Nijmegen society", the email reads. "How can we as independent law enforcement enter a bar tomorrow and call others on their behavior."

A Dutch court denied Pastafarian Mienke de Wilde from Nijmegen permission to wear a colander on her head in the photo for her driver's license, AD reports.

De Wilde belongs to the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, which was acknowledged as an official religion in the Netherlands a year ago. Part of the religion is that followers - Pastafarians - should wear colanders on their heads. As such, De Wilde wanted to do so on the photo on her driver's license.

A 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old woman were arrested on Saturday for breaking into a building on Elzenstraat in Nijmegen and stealing biscuits, tea and detergent, the police said in a statement. 

The police responded to the building around 10:40 p.m. on Saturday after reports of a break in. At the scene they found the two teenagers sitting in a car.

Also in the car were biscuits, tea and detergent, among other things. After checking the building, the police concluded that the items in the car were taken from the building.

Anis Amri, the Tunisian man suspected of driving a truck into a Christmas market in Berlin on December 19th, spent several hours in Amsterdam two days later, Minister Ard van der Steur of Security and Justice confirmed in a letter to parliament on Wednesday. Amri was caught on surveillance cameras in the Dutch capital, the Dutch Public Prosecutor confirmed, the Telegraaf reports.

The Dutch prosecutor's office, OM, waited about four days to notify the cabinet that the man suspected of carrying out a terrorist attack in Berlin also spent time in the Netherlands after the incident. Dutch authorities ultimately notified Minister Ard van der Steur (Security and Justice) that the suspect, Anis Amri, traveled through the Netherlands, Van der Steur said in answer to parliamentary questions on Thursday.

Opposition parties were angered by the delay in notifying the cabinet minister, calling it an apparent lack of urgency among the Dutch authorities.

Anis Amri, the man responsible for an attack on a Christmas market in Berlin on December 19th, traveled through the Netherlands after the attack, according o Italian and French media Italian newspapers La Republica and Corriere della Sera report that a SIM card was found in his bag that was only distributed in the Netherlands, NOS reports.

On December 19th, Amri drove a truck ino a Christmas market in Berlin. He was shot and killed by the Italian police in Milan four days later.

A woman sustained serious injuries in Nijmegen on Wednesday when she fell off the Waal bridge on the Waalkade and landed on the deck of a passing cruise ship, the Gelderlander reports.

Emergency services responded en masse and rushed the woman to the hospital. At this stage the police believe the woman was trying to commit suicide. 

The cruise ship on which she fell - the A-Rosa Flora - was on its way to Germany. The passengers were inside the ship at the time.

Guns N' Roses will be giving a concert in the Goffertpark in Nijmegen on July 12th next year as part of their Not In This Lifetime tour. This is the first time since 1993 that guitarist Slash, singer Axl Rose and bassist Duff McKagan will be on stage together in Nijmegen since 1993, the Gelderlander reports.

Ticket sales for the concert starts Friday at 10:00 a.m. An American Express presale is already ongoing, during which a certain percentage of the available tickets will be sold. The presale ends at 9:00 a.m. on Friday.

A 69-year-old mother and her 43-year-old daughter were the two people killed along with three of their dogs when a train hit them at a crossing on Sionsweg in Nijmegen on Monday. The victims lived together in a home on Breedweg near Groesbeek, the Gelderlander reports.

Local residents told the newspaper that they had a very reclusive lifestyle, with very little contact with neighbors. They had four or five dogs and five or six cats.

Two persons and multiple dogs were killed after being hit by a train in Nijmegen on Monday morning. According to the police, the pedestrians and their dogs were crossing the rails at Scheidingsweg after the barriers were already down. "This happened deliberately, so it looks like suicide", a spokesperson for the police said to AD.

A train hit several pedestrians at a crossing in Nijmegen on Monday morning. Two people were killed, according to the police. 

It is currently still unclear what exactly happened - whether this was an accident or a planned action, AD reports. No cars were involved, only the train and several pedestrians, a spokesperson for the police said to the newspaper.

Emergency services are at the scene. Traffic over the S100 is being diverted. The municipality also closed several streets around the scene of the accident.

Autumn weather and leaves on the tracks resulted in fewer trains traveling between Nijmegen and Schiphol and between The Hague and Utrecht on Thursday, NS reports. 

There will be a train on these routes every 30 minutes, instead of the normal schedule of every 15 minutes. Travelers should take extra trael time of around 15 minutes into account. They also may have to switch trains more often. NS thinks the delays will last until 9:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Slick railway tracks caused by fallen leaves and rain resulted in fewer trains traveling on the busy routes between Nijmegen and Schiphol and between Den Haag Central and Utrecht Central, NS warns. Delays can be up to 15 minutes per journey.

Trains with damaged wheels can not travel on slick tracks, according to Het Parool. Damaged wheels skid on slick tracks when a train tries to brake and can lead to significant damage.

Football club SCH from Nijmegen is taking disciplinary steps against players and the team involved in a brawl with Germania Groesbeek on Saturday. Several people were injured, two seriously enough to go to the hospital, the Gelderlander reports.

Two 18-year-old vloggers will not be fined or sent to prison for jumping on the roof of a Veolia train in June, the court ruled on Friday according to 1Limburg. 

The judge did order the two boys, Willem Vink and Jimmy van Vonderen, to go have a conversation with Veolia train drivers. The drivers will tell the about their traumatic experiences with people who jump in front of trains.
