The Netherlands is the biggest tax haven in the European Union and the third biggest in the world, according to Oxfam Novib's list of the 15 biggest tax havens in the world. Worldwide, only Bermuda and the Cayman Islands are ranked higher on the development organization's list, NOS reports.

Other EU countries in the top 15 list include Switzerland on 4th place, Ireland in 6th and Luxembourg on 7th position. Curacao is the 8th biggest tax haven in the world. And the British Virgin Islands made it to 15th place.

The Advisory Council on International Affairs (AIV) called upon Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte to push through ratification of a European Union agreement with the Ukraine. The number of adults held in custody by order of Dutch courts fell in 2015 by 3,450 to 39,790. It represents a decline of nearly eight percent on the 2014 prison population, according to Statistics Netherlands (CBS), a reversal after two straight years of slight increases.

The Netherlands is still making secret tax deals with multinational companies, according to an European report on which Dutch research foundation SOMO worked. The Netherlands remains one of the ost important countries in Europe when it comes to tax evasion, the report states according to ANP.

Last year the Netherlands made 236 secret tax deals. That means that the country is 3rd in Europe in the number of secret tax deals made with multinationals last year. Only Belgium and Luxembourg made more.

On Monday the Neterlands and Belgium signed a border treaty in which a part of what was formerly Belgium now falls under the Neterlands and vice versa. The reason for the adjustment was the unclear situation in the area around the Maas between Eijsden Margraten in Limburg and Wezet in Belgium, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Monday.

It seems that Naples wants to take some of the tourists Amsterdam is often complaining about off the Dutch capital's hands. Visitnaples.eu playfully launched an attack on Amsterdam with a video comparing the two cities.

In the United States Black Friday is the Friday after Thanksgiving, so the third Friday in November. In the first nine months of 2016 Dutch companies exported more to the Ukraine than in the same period last year, according to figures from the European Commission (EC). The total trade between the Netherlands increased by 4 percent to 1.17 billion euros. The fathers of are in Spain helping the local authorties look for their daughters. There are now indications that the two 16-year-old girls are no longer in Malaga, but in Marbella, some 60 km away, Omroep Brabant reports based on information from a spokesperson for the famiies.

Two 16-year-old Dutch girls have been missing since Tuesday. The authorities believe that Femke Lucas and Sam Bruijs from Bergen op Zoom took a bus to Eindhoven Airport on Tuesday and then flew to Malaga in southern Spain. They were last seen there on surveillance camera footage, Omroep Brabant reports.

Why the two girls suddenly decided to go to Spain remains a mystery, for the police and their families. At this stage the police believe that the two aren't in any trouble, but they are taking the matter seriously.

All poultry farmers in the Netherlands were ordered on Wednesday to cage and guard all their birds intended for the production of meat and eggs. This precautionary measure was implemented by State Secretary Martijn van Dam of Economic Affairs after highly pathogenic bird flu H5N8 was found in wild birds in Germany, Austria, Hungary, Poland and Switzerland, NOS reports. 

About 10 dead grebes and tufted ducs were also found in the Netherands, near Monnickendam. They died of bird flu, though further study will reveal whether it was subtype H5N8.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima's state visit to Australia and the simultaneous trade mission was a success. The trade mission brought in about 125 million euros in orders to Dutch businesses, Minsiter Henk Kamp of Economic Affairs announced in Brisbane on Friday, the Telegraaf reports.

The trade mission was comprised of 95 companies, that traveled in the wake of the Royals on their state visit. Dutch companies and their Australian partners signed contracts and cooperation agreements in a number of sectors, including water, healthcare, horticulture, IT and infrastructure.
