Research by citizens' initiative Meten=Weten found 31 different pesticides, biocides and degradation products used in agriculture in nature reserves and national parks in Drenthe. Only 20 of the products found are authorized for use in the Netherlands, RTV Drenthe reports.
The Netherlands needs tens of thousands of hectares more nature reserves to achieve European nature objectives, according to the Netherlands' environmental assessment agency PBL. Take measures to make nature more robust, so that more permits can be granted for construction and other projects, the PBL said in new advice to the government, AD reports.
The first island of the Marker Wadden will open to the public next week. From September 8th visitors can make use of the port, hiking trials, bird watching huts and the observation tower on the 250 hectares large island, RTL Nieuws reports.
Throughout next weekend extra ferries will sial to the island from the Bataviahaven in Lelystad. Private boats are also welcome.
A woman from Boijl was attacked by a Spanish Sayaguesa bull while hiking on the Wapserveld with her husband on Sunday. She was left with a big gash on her face, and a big bruise on her side, her husband Karel Bakx said to RTV Drenthe.
"The animal was on the path, so we always go around it", Bakx said. Normally nothing happens, but this time the bull attacked his wife. "We were still lucky", Bakx said to the broadcaster after describing his wife's injuries.
The forest fire in Chaam has rekindled. Firefighters are currently working to extinguish the fire, with the help of a team from Twente that specializes in wildfires.
