Museum pass holders paid 8.3 million visits to cultural institutions in the Netherlands last year, an increase of 8 percent compared to the 7.4 million visits in 2014, the Museum Association announced.
Almost 26 million people visited a museum in the Netherlands last year, an increase of 2.7 million compared to 2013. But despite the increasing visitors, a number of smaller museums still ended up in the red, according to the report Museum Figures 2014 commissioned by the Museum Association.
Museums are having to find different ways to fund exhibitions. Companies are hesitant to sponsor after the financial crisis that started in 2008.

Most of the large museums in the Netherlands had more visitors this year than last year. The Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam especially had many visitors, 2.5 million and 1.6 million respectively. This is according to a survey done by the ANP.
The Museumkaart (Museum card), with which people have year-long unlimited access to museums in the Netherlands, has become so successful that the price has gone up by €5. From the 1st of July, subscribers pay €54,95.
