A massive earthquake with a force of 6.7 on the Richter scale hit the southwestern coast of Turkey around 1:30 a.m. on Friday, local time. The epicenter of the quake was 10 kilometers form the coast of tourist resort Bodrum. Nearby Greek island Kos was also hit hard. Many Dutch tourists are on summer holiday at these locations, NU.nl reports.
King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima officially opened the National Monument for the victims of flight MH17 during the memorial service on the third anniversary of the disaster on Monday afternoon. The monument is located in Vijfhuizen Park next to Schiphol Airport, where MH17 took off on July 17th, 2014.
At least two Dutch people were arrested in Germany in connection with riots around the G20 summit in Hamburg over the weekend, the Hamburg police confirmed, according to RTL Nieuws.
One of the Dutch detainees is a 33-year-old man from Nijmegen. He was still in custody by Tuesday night. The man asked for assistance from the Netherlands and is receiving that from the Dutch consulate in Dusseldorf, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said to the broadcaster.
Two Rotterdam students planned to vacation in the United States, but they got no further than JFK Airport in New York. There the American authorities decided to deny them access to the country. "Because we are Muslim", Othmane Charib and Ismail Aghzanay said in a video they made from London after being deported.
"We were treated like criminals. We had to sit back to back with each other and weren't allowed to make eye contact." Charib tells in the video. "They took our pictures and fingerprints. Our tickets were torn to pieces. Dogs are treated better."

Israel demolished a Dutch development project consisting of 96 solar panels and other equipment for supplying power to Palestinian village Jubbet Adh Dhib on the west bank of the Jordan. Two Dutch journalists are being "held against their will" in Colombia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in the early hours of Tuesday morning. The two were abducted by left-wing movement ELN, the National Liberation Army, on Saturday, according to local newspaper El Tiempo.

Two people were killed when an unknown number of gunmen attacked a luxury resort in the African country of Mali on Sunday. Six Dutch were present during the attack, but escaped unharmed, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed, ANP reports.

Both Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Foreign Affairs Minister Bert Koenders spoke out against a massive bombing in the Afghan capital of Kabul this morning that left at least 80 people dead and an estimated 364 people wounded. The attack was committed with a tanker during morning rush hour, in an area that houses many embassies and ministries, AD reports.
"Terrible attack in Kabul. A number of international partners also hit hard. Our thoughts go out to all the victims", Rutte said on Twitter.
Dutch woman Yvonne Snijter is missing in Libya, according to numerous reports and calls for help from friends on social media. She was last seen on Friday in a cafe in the old part of the capital city of Tripoli. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is investigating, AD reports.
According to Snijter's last tweet, on May 26th, she was heading out to get something to eat a few hours before Ramadan started. After that her usually active Twitter account falls silent.
NATO is joining the coalition fighting against terrorist organization ISIS in Syria and Iraq, the 28 NATO member states decided on Wednesday. The Netherlands will contribute two planes to the fight against Islamic State this year, Ministers Bert Koenders of Foreign Affairs and Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert announced.
The Dutch diplomatic network is in a "worrying state" and "urgently" needs to be strenghtened to avoid a diplomatic crisis, the advice council for international issues AIV said in a report on Wednesday. The new government will have to invest an extra 70 to 80 million euros annually into the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the report states according to ANP.

At least 22 people were killed and over 50 were wounded in an explosion shortly after an Ariana Grande concert in the Manchester Arena. The English authorities are "treating it as a terrorist attack until we know something else", the police said, RTL Nieuws reports.
The victims include children. The police currently believe it was a suicide bombing.
