There is no new Cold War between the West and Russia on the way, but finding "common ground" remains a challenge, Minister Stef Blok of Foreign Affairs said in a press conference after meeting his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Moscow on Friday. The Russians reaffirmed their cooperation in prosecuting those responsible for the MH17 disaster, he added, ANP reports.

Blok emphasized that, especially in difficult times like these, it is important that Europe and Russia stay in conversation with each other.

No Dutch soldiers will be prosecuted for bombings by the anti-ISIS coalition in Iraq and East Syria in which civilians were killed, the Public Prosecutor decided. The Dutch soldiers did not break the law of war, the the Ministers of Defense and Foreign Affairs wrote in a letter to parliament, RTL Nieuws reports.

The Public Prosecutor investigated four incidents. In none of these incidents did the Dutch soldiers break the law of war, the Ministers wrote.

The prosecution of those responsible for the MH17 disaster is the first subject Minister Stef Blok of Foreign Affairs will discuss with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov during his visit to Moscow on Friday. The Dutch Minister will also ask Russia to contribute to stopping the conflict in Syria, first of all by making a cease fire possible so that humanitarian aid can get to the people in the war-torn country, NOS reports.

A Dutch tourist was assaulted at a bar in Mirissa in Sri Lanka early on Sunday morning after he tried to stop employees at the bar sexually harassing two female tourists, British newspaper Daily Mirror reports.

According to the newspaper, a group of tourists, including the Dutch man and two British women, had dinner and drinks at a beach bar in the town of Mirissa on Sunday night. Waiters at the bar repeatedly sexually harassed the two women during the night. "The tried to dance near us and groped us from time to time during the night", one of the women said to the newspaper.

Relatives of people who died in the MH17 disaster are upset that the Dutch government is doing so now, but did not send Russian diplomats away after the Malaysia airlines flight was shot down.

Former Turkish minister Fatma Sahin canceled a planned visit to Deventer after consultation with Dutch diplomats. After a diplomatic row sparked by another Turkish Minister's visit to Rotterdam last year, it was decided that this visit "would not be appropriate at this moment", a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said to AD.

Stef Blok will be appointed the new Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Telegraaf reports on Monday. He is expected to be sworn in on Friday.

VVD member Blok was Minister of Housing and later the Minister of Justice and Security in the previous government. He will now be succeeding Halbe Zijlstra, who stepped down a few weeks ago after lying about meeting with Russian president Vladimir Putin.

The lower house of Dutch parliament will discuss him lying about personally attending a meeting with Russian president Vladimir Putin in 2006. Not only was he not at the meeting, but he also misinterpreted Putin's statements given to him by his source who was there, the source - former Shell CEO Jeroen van der Veer told the Volkskrant.
