The police responded to Molenstraat in Zundert in large numbers on Thursday morning due to an explosive left behind after a failed ATM bombing. Explosive experts and firefighters are also at the scene. Surrounding homes were evacuated, the police said on Twitter.

The explosive was left by two men who wanted to blow open an ATM in the center of the Noord-Brabant village sometime between 4:00 and 5:00 a.m. on Thursday morning, according to Omroep Brabant. The two suspects fled the scene on a scooter. Bystanders told the broadcaster that it involves an ABN Amro ATM.

An ABN Amro ATM on Gildeplein in Purmerend was blown open early on Thursday morning. A few hours after the ATM bombing, emergency services discovered a suspicious object they think may be an explosive that hasn't detonated. The Ministry of Defense's explosives clearance service is at the scene, the police said in a statement.

The Dutch military training mission in Iraq was suspended due to an increased threat in the region. The nature of the threat is unknown. The commander of the international coalition that coordinates training in the region ordered the mission to stop, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense said to NU.nl.

This temporary halt applies to all international allies who provide training in the area. Some 50 to 60 Dutch soldiers were ordered to cease their work "until further notice" due to an increased threat.

The Ministry of Defense suspended a platoon commander from the Royal Military Academy in Breda because he had a number of love affairs with female cadets, the Ministry confirmed to RTL Nieuws after reports in the Telegraaf.

The man involved is a captain in charge of a training platoon at the academy for upcoming officers, according to the broadcaster. The Ministry did not want to say anything more about the man's rank for privacy reasons.

The Netherlands remembered the victims of the Second World War with commemorations across the country on Saturday. King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima and Prime Minister Mark Rutte attended the National Commemoration in Amsterdam on Saturday evening. Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema stressed that the the lack of freedom during the war must be passed on so that it can be remembered "as if the war were yesterday. Barrels containing the explosive substance picric acid were found in a chemistry room at Groningen high school CSG Augustine. The Ministry of Defense's explosives clearance department removed the barrels from the school and safely detonated it elsewhere, RTV Noord reports.

School director Ritske Pieter Tulner told the broadcaster that the substance was stored in a closed area of the chemistry room. "It is one of the many substances that we have collected over the years. In this case it is picric acid. That can dry out and then become explosive."

Reports of a possible explosive in a parking lot in a residential area in Maarssen sent emergency services responding to the Utrecht town en masse on Monday morning. But it turned out to be a false alarm, NU.nl reports.

The Ministry of Defense's explosives disposal experts later determined that the object was in fact a weed grinder shaped like a hand grenade. 

After the discovery, the police closed down a large part of the Kamelenspoor neighborhood. The street was released again after the explosives experts determined that the "explosive" was harmless.

Decorated soldier Marko Kroon will be prosecuted for assaulting a cop in Den Bosch during Carnival early in March. He will be prosecuted for "breach of honor, insult and simple assault", the Public Prosecutor said in a statement on Friday. The Ministry of Defense announced that Kroon is suspended in anticipation of his trial.

An F16 fighter jet was severely damaged by its own ammunition during a training exercise above Vliehors on Vlieland on January 21st. Two fighter jets were shooting at a target with the on board gun. At least one cartridge hit the side of one of the F16s, parts of the ammunition also ending up in the engine, the Defense Security Inspectorate announced, NU.nl reports.

The F16's on board gun has a 20 mm caliber and shoots around 6 thousand cartridges per minute. No one was injured in the incident. Both fighter jets landes safely at Leeuwarden Air Base.

A resident of Van Harenstraat in Leeuwarden found a hand grenade in his garden on Sunday morning. The explosive was disarmed by experts from the Ministry of Defense and removed from the scene, the Friesland police said on Twitter.

The explosive was discovered at around 9:30 a.m. According to the police, investigation quickly showed that the grenade posed no danger to the environment. The Defense explosive experts were still called in as a precaution.

The police are investigating how the grenade came to be in the Van Harenstraat garden.

The police station on Stationstraat in Heerlen was evacuated for several hours due to a hand grenade. A man showing disturbed behavior left a grenade at the station, NU.nl reports.

The police station was evacuated at around 5:00 p.m. The Ministry of Defense's explosive removal department investigated, determined that it was indeed a real hand grenade, and removed the explosion. The station was released again at around 8:30 p.m.

The man was arrested and taken to a hospital. After treatment, he was brought back to the police station for questioning.

The Ministry of Defense acknowledged liability for the death of 20-year-old Koninklijke Marechaussee officer Kelvin Bosman in 2016. The young man became unwell during the final exercise of his basic training to become a Marechaussee and later died of the consequences of heat exhaustion, NOS reports.

A suspicious package was found on Amerikalaan in Utrecht on Monday morning. The police closed down a wide area around the street. Multiple homes and business premises were evacuated, a police spokesperson said to NU.nl.

The Ministry of Defense's explosives removal department is at the scene to investigate.

The police also closed down Beneluxlaan, which borders Amerikalaan, in both directions. The tram line is also closed, so no tram traffic is currently possible in Utrecht.

Dutchbat soldiers who were stationed at the headquarters in Potocari during the Bosnian civil war in 1994 and 1995 are pressing attempted aggravated assault charges against the Ministry of Defense because they were exposed to toxic substances, EenVandag reports.

The Dutchbat headquarters were located in an old battery factory in the Bosnian village, near Srebrenica. According to the soldiers, the factory contained, among other things, asbestos, chemicals and a vat with a "nuclear" warning on it."

An important American flag from the Second World War will be displayed in the Kunsthal in Rotterdam for two weeks, starting Monday. The D-Day flag flew on landing ship LCC 60 on 6 June 1944, the only landing ship that managed to reach Utah Beach during the Allied invasion of Normandy. According to experts, this is one of the most important objects of the invasion that is still in private hands, RTL Nieuws reports.

A hand grenade was found in a the front yard of a home in Echt on Tuesday morning. Half an hour later, another grenade ws found in the front yard of a home in Holtum. The resident of the Holtum home is a member of an Outlaw Motorcycle Gang, the police confirmed to NU.nl. The resident of the Echt home does not belong to a motorcycle gang, but a member of such a gang lives on the same street, NU.nl reports.
