PvdD leader Marianne Thieme is temporarily stepping out of the Tweede Kamer, the lower house of Dutch parliament, because she is ill. Exactly what illness she has, was not disclosed for privacy reasons. Thieme hopes to be healthy and working again in 16 weeks, her spokesperson said to RTL Nieuws.

In addition to her work as parliamentarian, Thieme is also temporarily stopping her international work.

Minister Stef Blok of Foreign Affairs ison Wednesday on statements he made about multicultural societies. He faced fierce criticism from the parliamentarians, including from coalition parties D66, CDA and ChristenUnie. Only populist parties PVV and FvD outright supported his remarks, NOS reports.

Many of the political party leaders already cast their votes in the parliamentary election in the Netherlands this morning. D66 leader Alexander was the first party leader to do so. He voted in his hometown of Wageningen, NOS reports.

According to Pechtold, today is an exciting day. "There are four parties that can become the biggest and of those the D66 is the most progressive", he said to the broadcaster. He plans to hand out some more flyers during the day.

Almost all party leaders in the Tweede Kamer, lower house of parliament, released a joint statement against the violent escalation seen during refugee discussions in the Netherlands over the past weeks. They call on their voters to show more mutual understanding and tolerance and not to confuse threats and insults with debate.

Restaurant Pronckheer in Cothen, Utrecht, serves already for a while starling, who are shot in the orchard of the neighbors. Arjan Smit, owner of the restaurant, is not going to stop that, despite an angry letter from the Organisation for Protection of Birds (Vogelbescherming).

The province of Utrecht is now checking if it is actually allowed to prepare starling and Party for the Animals (PvdD) MP  and party leader Marianne Thieme has asked questions in the House on Tuesday to State Secretary Sharon Dijksma of Economic Affairs.
