A leak in an underground naphtha pipeline in Born, Limburg, gives specialists a lot of work. They have been preparing to seal the leak in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. The final sealing happens Wednesday in daylight, reported the fire department.

The leak in the pipeline occurred on Tuesday when workers were drilling. Two of the workers were covered with the liquid, which had to be washed off by the fire brigade. It is not known why they were drilling in the area.

On Tuesday heavy storms blew away tents and made trees fall at the camping site De IJzeren Man in Weert and the nearby natural campsite Wega. The storm created widespread panic among the visitors. No one was injured.

In no time campsite Wega was flooded on Tuesday due to severe thunderstorms with hail. Tents blew away, others were flooded. Most of the 150 campers decided to discontinue their holidays prematurely. “In a wet sleeping bag you can not sleep,” said one of them.

At campsite Osebos in Gulpen, at about 5.30pm on Monday afternoon, ten children and an adult became unwell, presumably by chlorine fumes from the outdoor pool at the campsite. They were taken to hospitals in Maastricht and Heerlen. The emergency services cleared the pool.

A quarrel between Greek men and Polish men at a campsite in Baarlo (Limburg), ended in a stabbing in the night from Saturday to Sunday. Three Polish men (26, 26 and 31) were injured, two Greeks (27 and 38) were arrested, as the police reported.

The 47-year-old gunman who shot at three passers-by, from his home at the Pierre Kemp Street in Melick (Limburg) on Wednesday afternoon, was arrested by a SWAT team. The weapon he used was most probably an air gun. The man was transported handcuffed and blindfolded in a police car. During the raid by the SWAT team, shots were heard. The police, however, did  not confirm a shooting during the arrest.

A member of the SWAT team was slightly injured and was treated on the spot by paramedics.

Two sisters of 75 and 78 years of Margraten (Limburg) lost their lives on Wednesday in their hometown, due to a tragical traffic accident. When the two pedestrians  crossed the high way around 5.00 pm, they were hit by a tractor with a lawnmower installed at the front.

The precise location of the accident was the crossing of the highway with the Sterre der Zeestraat, reported the police. The tractor was driven by a 43-year old man from Echt, Limburg. The driver gave a statement to the police. After taking the statement the police let the man go.

Maastricht University (UM) can count themselves among the best 'young' universities of the world. This is evident from the annual ranking of Times Higher Education Magazine (THE) for universities that exist less than 50 years.

Maastricht rises in this top 100 from place 19 to the 6th spot. “The Maastricht University is steadily advancing. That is an exponent of the power of the Dutch educational system as a whole,” says the chief editor Phil Baty of THE.

The wife of the late councilor Jo Dejong of Meerssen, in an interview broadcasted on Tuesday by the regional broadcasting L1 and by EénVandaag, alleged that the councilors of the municipality of Meerssen were all guilty.

Jo Dejong committed suicide ​​on  March 11, after the council had unanimously turned their back on him. This was after Dejong kissed a female officer of the municipality against her will at a carnival. He offered his apologies  and resigned under the pressure, but the board did not want to have  anything to do with him anymore.

On Friday morning, the bomb squad (EOD) in Venlo responded to a report that an explosive was attached to the leg of a 22-year-old man. For hours, the areas near the scene at Casinoweg in Venlo were closed off. Fortunately, the device was not an explosive.

At 1:00 am on Friday, the police received a report that a man, who was supposedly kidnapped, was brought back to his home by the perpetrators with a bomb  attached to his leg.

Some citizens of Meerssen (Limburg), united with the Restoration of Democracy Group, believe that acting mayor Hans Schmidt of the municipality in Limburg must resign. They published this in a manifest last Saturday and they have an internet signature campaign going on.

Meerssen, a peaceful village in the South of Limburg, is in turmoil. More than a month ago, 58-year old alderman Jo DeJong committed suicide after he resigned.

At a carnival a few weeks earlier, DeJong gave a french kiss to a female municipal officer in a pub against her will.
